The popular tactical strategy series has just released a brand new spinoff, XCOM: Chimera Squad sees players controlling a unique band of characters in their quest for peace and justice. It’s officially out now and also on sale for the next week, at 50% off until May 1st! So now’s a great time to jump back into the XCOM world.
Compared to the other conferences, last night’s PC Gaming Show was a notably more high brow event. There weren’t dancers and stage effects, just cosy chats on the couch. One such chat with Firaxis’ Jake Solomon led to the revealing of XCOM 2’s first full-scale expansion pack, however. XCOM 2 - War of the Chosen is the largest slice of DLC yet for XCOM 2. War of the Chosen adds three additional factions - Reapers, Skirmishers and Templars, as well as a new enemy known as 'The Chosen'. New environments, enemy threats and mission adjectives will provide XCOM 2 with more varied long-term gameplay.
XCOM 2 has just had some fresh life breathed into it with the arrival of the Long War 2 mod, from the newly-renamed Pavonis Interactive. Launched in official partnership with 2K and Firaxis, the Long War packs in what practically amounts to an entire expansion’s worth of content entirely for free labour.
The team behind the game-changing Long War mod for XCOM has announced it’s working on a sequel for XCOM 2. Officially announced by Firaxis, the Long War Studios team has been brought in under its wing under the new name of Pavonis Interactive.
Ok now we take a look at the GTX 1060 benchmark videos to show how it looks running the XCOM sequel. Specifically we will see how many frame rates an in game XCOM 2 turn will achieve when running on 1080p and 1440p at Ultra graphics settings. We will then compare the GTX 1060 Founders Edition and the MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X 6G against a range of other graphics card benchmarks.
The third and final XCOM 2 DLC, Shen’s Last Gift, has been launched alongside a new trailer. This time around it includes a brand new soldier class with powerful and unique combat abilities, along with a new narrative based mission focusing on Chief Engineer Lily Shen, who joins the squad to find out more about her late father’s final project. It’s tucked away in Advent’s Lost Towers facility and promises to be one of the most dramatic showdowns yet.
Having taken a backseat from the limelight for a couple of months, Firaxis is back with the second of XCOM 2’s expansion packs. XCOM 2: Alien Hunters packs in a new story-based based, extra armour and weapons, and a Hunter’s Lodge added to the Avenger’s Armory.
XCOM 2 launched with full mod support and we’ve already seen some really amazing things come out of it, ranging from having Mass Effect characters a squaddies to turning weapons into Corgis. A new mod has launched called Squad Cohesion that introduces a relationship mechanic between squad members.
To look at it you’d think XCOM 2 wouldn’t be the most demanding game around. I mean, it’s a top-down turn-based tactical shooter, it’s not exactly DOOM. Anyway, it turns out plenty of people did have problems running it smoothly across a range of systems, but at long last, over a month after its launch, 2K and Firaxis have pushed out XCOM 2’s first major patch.
Firaxis has revealed the first slice of DLC coming to XCOM 2 as part of its ‘Reinforcement Pack’, AKA the season pass. Anarchy’s Children is the first of three planned add-ons, but it might not be what everyone had been hoping for. Hang on, let me rephrase that - it’s definitely not what I was hoping.
Now that we've all had a week or two to stick it to the Advent on their terms, I thought it was about time to up the crazy factor and tip the scales in humanity's balance. XCOM 2 launched with Steam Workshop fully supported and we're already seeing plenty of crazy and awesome mods, ranging from a corgi that's actually a gun to new enemy types. Using our MSI NVIDIA GTX 980 ti 6GB, I loaded up XCOM 2 with a few interesting mods and tweaks to see what sort of hits the game's performance took.
