Toot toot, it’s free games time. This week’s additions are a little late for Halloween though, despite being well-suited to the globe’s favourite haunted holiday. One of them, Costume Quest, is a game literally about dressing up and going out trick or treating for Halloween.
Based on the just released and popular horror Sci-fi Soma, Frictional are releasing a Webisode series starting from this week and running until the 5th October, to help deliver extra clarity on the game's story.
Frictional Games caused quite a stir when it released Amnesia: The Dark Descent some five years ago. Not only was it a great game in its own right, but it kickstarted an entire new subgenre of horror, which had, until then, been largely untouched. That being one of total defencelessness against creeping terrors, where fighting was no longer a choice and running was the only weapon in the player’s armoury. Now they're back, five years later, with SOMA, a sci-fi horror set deep beneath the ocean waves drawing inspiration from the likes of author Philip K. Dick.
Okay, this is it. This is the trailer when I finally know SOMA will be too much for me to handle. Damn you, Frictional Games, you win. The Swedish developer’s upcoming sub-aquatic horror game is looking terrifying in the extreme, tasking the player with exploring an abandoned base deep beneath the waves.
“Sink into the Crushing Isolation of SOMA” is possibly one of the most downbeat PR headers I’ve ever read. It’s like an invitation to “Step on a plug!” or “Free landmine garden makeover!”. Frictional Games knows its audience though, and its audience endured a torrid time with Amnesia: The Dark Descent and it’s still coming back for it. It takes all sorts, I guess.
After the so-grim-I-still-haven't-finished-it success of Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Frictional Games has taken its time with its stab at first-person horror. SOMA is a sci-fi horror game set on an abandoned facility beneath the Atlantic ocean. Or at least, it appears to be abandoned, but I get the feeling you're definitely not alone.
Last week we got wind of a release date for Frictional Games's SOMA, alongside a lengthy gameplay demo, but clearly they didn’t want to be left out of the E3 whirlwind, revealing a brand new E3 2015 trailer for the upcoming sci-fi horror game.
The first extended look has surfaced of SOMA, the promising science fiction survival horror from Frictional Games, the folks behind the unnerving Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Frictional also revealed a release date for the title, announcing it will be arriving on September 22nd for PC and PlayStation 4.
You could be forgiven for assuming that SOMA, the upcoming horror game from Amnesia: The Dark Descent creators Frictional Games, was set in space.
Frictional Games, the team behind the terrifying Amnesia: The Dark Descent, has teased its upcoming sci-fi horror title SOMA, aimed at tackling unsettling questions about consciousness.
Frictional Games has released a trailer with more hints about its mysterious upcoming horror title SOMA.
