Red Barrels have announced The Outlast Trials, an all-new game in the Outlast survival horror franchise. The Outlast Trials isn’t a sequel to Outlast 2 but an all-new co-operative horror experience playable with up to three other players.

The Outlast Trials will be set in the Soviet Union during the Cold War. “The Outlast Trials will allow players to face the horrors that await by themselves or with other test subjects…” writes Red Barrels.

They’ve said that The Outlast Trials is still in the production phase so it may be a little while yet until we see it. “Now we’ve done our proof of concept, it is time to focus on content creation, variety… and gore,” says Red Barrels co-founder David Chateauneuf.

The artwork could perhaps lead you to believe we’re dealing with a VR title here but the development team has categorically state this isn’t the case - The Outlast Trials will be a standard flat-screen experience, the chief twist being the co-operative element.

Sadly, there’s no trailer or even screenshots to accompany this one, so we’ll have to fall back on that old classic - our imaginations. Well, that, or you can check Red Barrels’ last game, Outlast 2, which should give you a fairly decent idea of the terror that’s in store.
