The buggiest game of 2020 has just been announced. Starship Troopers - Terran Command is the first new Starship Troopers game on PC for 15 years, and the 2005 Starship Troopers FPS wasn’t exactly a timeless classic.

Starship Troopers - Terran Command goes the sensible route with the genre this time, arriving as a real-time strategy game with tower defense elements. It’s you, your army of space fascists, and a billion bugs which need squashing. Fingers crossed we get some razor-sharp skewering of right-wing militarism, all wrapped up grand-scale troop battles across the dusty surface of Planet P as players ensure humans, not bugs, becoming the dominant force in the galaxy.

“If you take one of the most iconic movies from the 90s and shape it into a strategy game of survival, that mixes classic real-time mechanics, tower defense and tactical deployment of units then you have ‘Starship Troopers - Terran Command’ in a nutshell,” says Iain McNeil, Development Director at Slitherine. “Modern strategy games are fast-paced and they successfully blend unit management, survival and captivating storytelling. Nothing is more suited to this type of gameplay than the Starship Troopers universe, where there is a continuous sense of danger and uncertainty”.

Players can expect a grand single-player with branching storyline, a wide array of units and weapons, true line of sight and line of fire, and deep technology trees through which to specialise your forces.

Published by Slitherine, Starship Troopers - Terran Command is being developed by the relatively unknown The Aristocrats. They’re chiefly known for the Order of Battle series, a fairly niche turn-based strategy franchise which nevertheless seems to have got a positive reception on Steam.

Starship Troopers - Terran Command is due to come to PC at some point in 2020.
