Like clockwork, Pro Evolution Soccer is back for another outing in 2019. Or is it? Konami has rebranded the series. Wave goodbye to Pro Evo, say hello to eFootball PES 2020. Quite the mouthful.

And look, it’s all rather pathetic of me but I’m glad Konami has finally gone with football rather than soccer for the name. Finally Konami, you’ve ended up the right side of history for once. The name’s awful, of course, but we’re taking it is an encouraging sign that some wholesale changes could be inbound for the long-running footie series.

The one and only Lionel Messi has managed to squeeze onto the front cover for the 2020 outing. Isn’t it about he moved aside and let someone else hog the limelight for a bit?

In terms of gameplay, it’s always difficult to really get a feel for what’s happening without getting a hands-on, but Konami are promising the ability to finesse dribble for finer control, as well as contextual passing.

eFootball PES 2020 is out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (through Steam).
