And the record for earliest launch trailer ever released goes to Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Activision’s reimagining of the classic 3D PSone platforming games isn’t even out until November 13th, but more than three weeks ahead of then we’ve been given a launch trailer. I'm not entirely sure the point of a launch trailer is to forget about the launch trailer by the time the game launches.
Just as with the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy is much more than simple remaster. Developers Toys for Bob has remade the game from the ground up and it is, it would be fair to say, looking rather swish indeed. While the core of the gameplay looks to be remaining exactly the same, the levels have been remodeled and feature a much greater level of detail than the aging originals.
Unfortunately, we still haven’t heard a peep about a PC version of Spyro yet, nor the mooted Switch edition. We did have to wait an extra year for the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy though, so it’s looking likely that your patience will be rewarded with a PC port eventually.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 13th, and includes remakes of the original three Spyro games - Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. Spider-Man developer Insomniac’s platforming hero was regarded as a great back in the day, but it remains to be seen how he holds up two decades later.
