We are now less than 24 hours away from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 being unleashed on the world. Anticipation feels a little muted, it would be fair to say, but Activision is looking to build the hype with its new COD: Black Ops 4 - Zombies - Blood of the Dead trailer, which absolutely rolls off the tongue.
With the total absence of a single-player campaign in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, there’s a lot resting on the cinematic ambitions of the co-op Zombies mode. There’s always been a loose plot element and obscure lore tucked away into Zombies, but this time Treyarch is even trying to tug on our heartstrings. The word melodramatic doesn’t come anywhere near to this trailer justice; a part of my brain can’t tell whether this is a parody or utter sincerity.
Outside of the story elements though, Zombies mode will boil down to what it always has - ploughing through hundreds of enemies, upgrading loadouts, and getting stuck into some light puzzle solving. There’ll be a whole lot more of it this time around though as Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be launching with a full three Zombies maps - Blood of the Dead, Voyage of Despair, and IX.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 comes to PC (via Battle.net), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 12th.
