Uh oh, Walmart Canada’s put its foot in it now. The nationwide store put up dozens of pre-order listings for new games on its online store yesterday, including plenty of games that have to even be announced.
This could well be one of the biggest E3 leaks in recent times, with Walmart listing the likes of Just Cause 4, Borderlands 3, Gears of War 5, a new Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, Forza Horizon 5 (Not 4, weirdly enough), and, perhaps most bizarrely, Rage 2.
There is the chance that these could all be pre-emptive guesses from Walmart, of course, with games such as Borderlands 3, NBA 2K19, and a new Forza Horizon being damn near certain to be revealed at E3. It’s the curve balls that have got us thinking though, in particular, Rage 2 and Lego DC Villains, neither of which have even been remotely rumoured.
The caveat to all of this is that the listings are peppered with mistakes. Lego DC ‘Villans’ is misspelled, while the next Forza Horizon will surely be FH4 rather than Forza Horizon 5. Dragon Quest 2 is an odd one as well, although this likely refers to the upcoming Dragon Quest Builders 2 rather than the original NES 1990 RPG.
Rage is the really odd one though. It came out back in 2011 from id Software and it was a fairly high profile failure, both commercially and critically. It’s a series that pretty much instantly seemed as dead as a doornail, so it seems curious that Walmart would just randomly go and add the sequel to its store. Bethesda caught wind of the situation pretty quickly, posting a rather tongue-in-cheek comeback criticising Walmart’s art and fonts used, and even brought the Rage Twitter account back to life for the dig.
For all of this though, Bethesda isn’t actually denying the existence of Rage 2, so perhaps there is a chance, or I guess hope, if you’re that way inclined, that Rage 2 could be revealed at E3 2018.
What do you reckon, could these game listings be the real deal? Would Rage 2 be something to get excited about? Forza Horizon 4 RIP?
