After countless delays, Star Citizen’s major 3.0 update launched around a month ago, and since then Cloud Imperium Games has been frantically trying to fix bugs, tweak systems and make the adjustments necessary for a solid gameplay experience.

It now means Star Citizen is probably in the best shape it’s ever been, complete with the first stab at the persistent universe, planetary landings, surface outposts, the ability to trade cargo and commodities, and a bunch of new missions. If you’re feeling particularly flush, you can even buy a plot of virtual land on a space rock for upwards of $50.

CIG has outlined all of these features and more in an extensive new Star Citizen Alpha 3.0 trailer. It looks like it’s sort of turning into a game after all these years, although be warned you need a very capable PC to run it well.

Should you be ready to jump into Star Citizen at this point, you’ll need to get the Mustang Alpha Starter Pack as a minimum, priced at $54. This nets you a nippy little fighter craft and access to the multiplayer portion of the game. Single-player fans will need a separate purchase - Squadron 42. You can pledge $54 for it right now but it’s not available to play just yet.

Anyone on the fence about Star Citizen but considering giving it a go?
