Blizzard’s career page is always a veritable treasure trove of information, acting as informal PR agent to the developer's comings and goings. This time around a number of positions have opened up in regards to a new Overwatch project. They’re looking for interns to work at Blizzard during Summer 2018, including a Generalist artist with a “knowledge and understanding of the Overwatch universe.”

The “unannounced project at Blizzard” will require the creation of a wide range of art assets in order to help bring the game to life. Knowledge of butt curvature preferable. OK, I made that last bit up.

There aren’t too many clues at all about what the game actually is, only that next-gen materials tools and pipelines will need to be used for an Overwatch project.

The rumour is in overdrive trying to figure out just what Blizzard has up its sleeves here. Blizzard doesn’t exactly crank out sequels at a breakneck pace, instead preferring long-term support, so Overwatch 2 seems doubtful. A more likely prospect is an Overwatch spin-off, in the same vein as Hearthstone was to WarCraft. An actual CCG would be stepping on Hearthstone’s toes a little too much. There is also the potential of adding a single-player campaign to Overwatch, although that’s perhaps a little pie in the sky.

A chief worry is that Blizzard is only hiring these interns for three months, indicating it may not be a massive project. It may mean nothing of course, but Blizzard’s previous form suggests a mobile Overwatch spin-off could perhaps be on the cards.

The internship is still a long ways off so don’t expect to hear anything about this unannounced Overwatch project during Blizzcon, which takes place on November 3rd and 4th.

What are you expecting from this unannounced Overwatch title? Just a throwaway spin-off or could it be a full-fat title?
