Microsoft has spent years trolling us about Age of Empires, yet last night during the PC Gaming Show we finally got some news! The trailer rolled. The logo came up. OH MY GOD OH MY GOD. Oh. It’s a remaster of the original Age of Empires. It’ll have to do for now, and it’s at least a stepping stone towards Age of Empires appears.

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is the classic historical RTS from Ensemble Studios, remade in full 3D with a new engine. Playable in 4K, Age of Empires: Definitive Edition includes upgraded art assets, completely new narration throughout, and hundreds of new and rebuilt sound effects.

The remastered will boast the full single-player campaigns alongside reworked multiplayer. The bad news is that it’s only going to be available through the Windows 10 Store, and multiplayer support will be running through Xbox Live.

Right at the end of the presentation, Microsoft also said “you’re going to hear from us again”, hinting there may be more to come from Age of Empires soon. Age of Empires 4, please, please, please.
