Need For Speed is racing back into our lives with the announcement of Need For Speed Payback. After 2015’s Need For Speed reboot proved somewhat disappointing, the racing series has gone back to the drawing board for NFS Payback. Based on a fictional version of Las Vegas, Need For Speed Payback promises to be an action-racing blockbuster in which the player and their crew are seeking revenge against the city’s Casino, ruled by a criminal cartel.
This means high-octane racing, casino heists, story-based set pieces and various races, missions and challenges littered around Fortune Valley. “You and your Crew are reunited by a search for vengeance against the House, a nefarious cartel that rules the City's Casino, criminals, and cops. In this corrupt gambler's paradise, the stakes are high and the House always wins. Play a variety of challenges and events as Tyler, the racer; Mac, the showman, and Jess, the wheelman” (wheelwoman?).
I'm getting some serious Fast & Furious vibes from this thing, which is sure to please racing fans. EA and Ghost Games are going headfirst down the story route which should be an interesting addition. Need For Speed has often flirted with this of course, but it looks as if this is going to bleed into epic set-piece missions and chases rather than the usual treadmill of races, chases and 'boss' battles.
Need for Speed Payback is out on November 10th 2017, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
