If there’s one thing that VR’s lacking, it’s those AAA must-have titles. There is literally no reason (in terms of games) why someone needs to own a virtual reality headset, aside from perhaps Rez Infinite. Resident Evil 7 came along and did its thing, but that’s a PSVR timed exclusive. Step forward Bethesda with Fallout 4 VR, which executive producer Todd Howard has said will “blow your mind.”

"Fallout 4 VR is the most incredible thing you've ever seen in your life," said Bethesda’s Pete Hines, explaining how Todd Howard had described it to him. "You can't even imagine what it's like, playing in VR and how realistic it looks and everywhere you turn your head. It is going to blow your mind. It is the craziest thing you've ever seen."

I dunno Pete, I’ve seen some pretty crazy things in my time. It’s going to take something really special to beat my two-headed duck.

For a lot of people I’d imagine the Fallout 4 ship has well and truly sailed, launching as it did about 18 months ago. Still, there’s no denying that Fallout 4 VR would be the most comprehensive VR experience yet, or certainly the lengthiest. Quite how we’ll feel trapped in that headset after the 120th hour remains to be seen, but it’ll be interesting to find out.

Bethesda has confirmed Fallout 4 VR will be playable on the show floor at E3 2017, which is now open to the public. It’s also looking fairly likely it may launch for HTC Vive at around about the same time.

What do you think, is Fallout 4 VR the killer app for VR headsets? Or is this too little too late?
