Ind-me, ind-you, we’ve been all in this year with Indie titles. There’s been some absolutely cracking games put out by the small time devs over the last 12 months and choosing which two will fight it out has been tricky to say the least. But we all need a bloodbath this Christmas and we’ve managed to whittle it down to the two with the most fight in them. In fight no.5 we will pit the valley against the forest with Stardew Valley taking on Firewatch, but who will be the best indie game Stardew Valley vs. Firewatch? And who will win the illusive Christmas FREE GAME GIVEAWAY!
Stardew Valley has been more than just a loving tribute to Harvest Moon, expertly crafted, innovative and deep, it has surpassed even its base material in some respects and has been well loved by many. While Firewatch has been the proudest walking simulator we’ve seen for some time, managing to both have you on the edge of your seat as well as lost in admiration of its beauty. But more importantly, who will win in a punch up? What happens when the fire warden takes on the farmer? We’ll have to put them in a ring together and see. Put your back into it and show all the support you can for the one you think is the biggest bruiser this Christmas in the polls and more importantly the better indie title between Firewatch and Satrdew Valley. 3… 2… 1.... Vote!
Yesterday we saw Doom and Titanfall 2 battle to the bitter end, but after a demon vs robot showdown we can confirm that Doom has reigned supreme, flinging Titanfall 2 to its grizzly demise. This means that the FPS showdown will be between Battlefield 1 and Doom, whose victor will take on the winner of the next two bouts. Let us continue unto Valhalla!
12 Games of Christmas Rules
In celebration of the most festive time of the year, we thought there was no better way to salute some of 2016's goliath's in gaming than a good old-fashioned bar-brawl. A battle Royale filled with broken noses and bloodied brows, red is the colour of Christmas after all. 12 of this year's most memorable titles will be going head to head in a series of knockout rounds over the next 9 days, and in the words of Highlander, there can be only one.
On top of that, to add the brandy to the Christmas pudding, we'll also be giving one winner a game of their choice from the 12 entries on December 24th. Perfect for a spot of gaming in the holidays. All you have to do to win a copy of that game is tweet your support for any game in the 12 Games of Christmas, using the links provided in each article, and we'll pick a winner out of all of the tweets after the final bout. Multiple tweets for different games will count as additional entries to the competition. Tweeting is separate from the poll and does not count as a vote in the 12 Games of Christmas.
How the community voting works
Each day at 18:00 GMT two titles will battle each other with the victor being decided the next day at 17:00 GMT. Whichever title receives the most votes in the poll wins, and will then go through to the next round. 12 games in total will be battling away, and the first six rounds will take place from today and over the next five days - one battle per day. The six games that win will make it through to the semi-finals, where three further 1v1 fights will take place. The winners of these three battles will then make it to the *cough* three-way final to decide the ultimate game this Christmas.
The winner of this knockout competition is Game Debate's favourite choice of game to be played this Christmas, who will triumphantly reign over us all the way into next year.
Each bout will last 23 hours, and the winner is whichever game receives the most votes in the poll, which can be found towards the bottom of each article.
Tweet to be in with a chance to win a copy of the overall tournament winner on Christmas Eve.
Vote in our poll at the bottom to help determine this round's winner.
