Speaking to a PAX East panel, Pitchford said "it's no secret, obviously there's going to be another Borderlands". Phew. Gearbox usually manages one big new title a year, along with a side project, so there is a tiny chance we could be seeing Borderlands 3 in 2017, provided it’s already deep into development. That could be a little optimistic, however it’s unlikely Gearbox’s 2017 title is Duke Nukem or Brothers in Arms, but I’d love to be surprised on that front too.
In the panel Pitchford confirmed long-time Borderlands writer Mikey Neumann would be working on the sequel, while Battleborn art director Scott Kester will reprise his role once more.
As for what it’ll be called, well, that’s still up in the air says Pitchford, "we don't even know if we're going to call it Borderlands 3. We could call it Borderlands 4 for all we know." Uhuh Pitchford, I think we all know it’s going to be a numbered sequel following the muted reception to Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. What’s in a name indeed.
Should the MOBA stylings of Battleborn be more your bag, this team-based shooter is blasting its way to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 3rd.
