A recent interview with CD Projekt RED has revealed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt recommended system requirements are targeted at running the RPG at 30 frames per second. The system specs for The Witcher 3 were released earlier this month and they were predictably eye-watering for those wanting to hit the higher settings, but those who want to hit that all-important 60fps may find themselves having to splash out on some even higher-end hardware.
No specifics were given as to what graphics settings this would be at, although CDPR is presumably talking about Ultra. They also reiterated that the system requirements for The Witcher 3 are in no way exaggerated, but the 230-man team is still working on optimisation ahead of its launch in May.
“I think we'll stick with 30 FPS. We're not going to stop working on performance until the very end. It's a crucial matter to us, there are different PCs with different specs. Programmers insisted on avoiding tricking the players by lowering predicted specs. As I mentioned before, It can only get better.”
In terms of the console version, CD Projekt RED also confirmed the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One versions will all be the same build, with the same quality textures and models, and will look practically identical on all platforms, aside from resolution. The Xbox One version will be 900p scaled up to 1080p, while the PlayStation 4 edition will be native 1080p.
It seems as if The Witcher 3 is going to be every bit as demanding as we’d anticipated, are you planning on getting an upgrade before then?
