Gearbox Software has assured fans in a recent interview that there will be a next-gen Borderlands 3 at some point in the future.

Gearbox is currently hard at work on Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, but executive producer Sean Reardon claims that this isn’t the last we’ll be seeing of the loot-tastic co-operative shooter series…

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is last-gen and PC only, so there don't expect many graphical improvements.

Speaking in an interview Reardon confirmed that Borderlands 3 will happen, saying that beyond the imminent launch of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, “Gearbox is not leaving Borderlands behind in any sense of the word. Everybody will be very excited.

The studio is also responsible for upcoming first-person-shooter MOBA Battleborn, and Reardon believes it can learn from the creation of this always-online experience to deliver a better Borderlands 3 when the time is right. “We’ll have better ingredients, we’ll have better people,” he said.

So Borderlands 3 is coming eventually then, even if it’s some off yet. What do you hope Gearbox brings to the series for Borderlands 3? Would you favour a larger MMO type experience or is the four-player co-op a perfect fit? Let us know!
