Aliens: Colonial Marines packshot image
Aliens: Colonial Marines is an upcoming video game in development by Gearbox Software and is to be published by Sega for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Xbox 360. The game is a first-person shooter based on the characters and creatures of the Alien franchise, particularly the film Aliens. It is the third Aliens title that Sega has produced: the first was Aliens vs. Predator in 2010, and the second was Aliens Infestation in 2011. Aliens: Colonial Marines is a first-person shooter which puts the player in the role of a United States Colonial Marine named Cpl. Christopher Winter. The player will have access to iconic weapons from the movie such as the flamethrower, pulse rifle, smartgun, shotgun, pistol, RPGs, and robotic sentry turrets. Players will also be able to use welding torches to seal doors and motion trackers to detect unseen enemies. Initially it was announced that the game would involve squad-based gameplay, allowing the player to issue orders to AI-controlled marines using context-sensitive commands. However, Gearbox later revealed that this feature was dropped to make gameplay more accessible. Aliens: Colonial Marines will have no HUD to provide the player with onscreen information.

Aliens: Colonial Marines

GeForce GTX 1060

Low Vs Ultra GeForce GTX 1060 Performance Review

Viewing the performance found on the 5 year old GeForce GTX 1060 while playing Aliens: Colonial Marines we quickly see it can get a very strong 200+ FPS. With that performance recorded at 1920x1080 res when running High graphics.

As this is a relatively powerful GPU, especially when comparing it to Aliens: Colonial Marines rec requirements, it would make more sense if you pushed it up to 1440p or 4K, where even at Ultra 4K graphics settings the GeForce GTX 1060 will still get a solid 73 FPS.

With a system housing a graphics card like the GeForce GTX 1060 and some 2GB RAM, we will see a strong 4K Ultra result in Aliens: Colonial Marines. Look for a processor like the Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz CPU to go with this setup and Ultra is a sure thing.

To summarise, GeForce GTX 1060 graphics cards can smoothly run this game, but what Aliens: Colonial Marines screen resolution would you like to run with? While you can get 73 FPS with 4K Ultra you can increase your frame rate to 123 FPS in Ultra 1440p and up to 162 FPS with 1080p. Pricing this on a frame per frame around the graphics cards original price it will cost $1.54 per 1080p Ultra frame. This increases to $2.02 per frame at 1440p Ultra and even more with 4K Ultra at $3.41 per frame.
