Dark Souls 3

GeForce GTX 970 4GB

Low Vs Ultra GeForce GTX 970 4GB Performance Review

Booting up Dark Souls 3 with the 6 year old GeForce GTX 970 4GB looks like it will return a reliable 70 FPS. And those results are assuming a 1920x1080 screen resolution at High setting level.

The 38 FPS on 1440p Ultra setting is a great way of running this game with this GPU. You can still consider pushing it up to 4K, where it can get 32FPS on High 4K or perhaps drop it to Medium 4K, where it increases to 47 FPS. Mind you this equates to a $8.68 cost per 1440p Ultra frame, based on the graphics card’s original release price.

In summary, we feel that the GeForce GTX 970 4GB looks and performs great on 1440p resolution. So if you want a 1440p Dark Souls 3 experience it will generate 101 FPS on Low 1440p graphics setting, 79 FPS when on Medium 1440p, 53 FPS when played at High settings and down to 38 FPS when turned up to Ultra on 1440p. You might still be looking for 1080p though to get some higher smoother FPS, where you could get 50 FPS at Ultra 1080p resolution. So something to think about.
