DOTA 2 packshot image
A Valve backed sequel to the very popular Warcraft 3 mod, Defense of the Ancients.
Confusingly, the official remake of the mod was called Heroes of Newerth and released earlier this year after a long Beta period. Heroes of Newerth and defense of the Ancients suffer from the incredibly steep learning curve and noob slamming. Our reviewer Squee reviewed Heroes of Newerth earlier this year and had a tough time as he was new to the game.
Valve are getting into the project to try and level the playing field with their player matching server skills.

DOTA 2

GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q

Low Vs Ultra GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q Performance Review

Playing DOTA 2 on the GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q, which is a 2 year old graphics card will likely return a consistently high 200+ frame rate. Note that those results would be running at High and 1920x1080 screen res.

And so following those results you could of course play this at 1080p, but this GPU is somewhat wasted at that resolution. We would suggest running DOTA 2 at 4K Ultra instead, where the GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q would still get 200+ FPS at these performance hungry settings and resolution. When considering the GPUs release price, this comes in at $0 per Ultra 4K FPS or $0 at 1440p Ultra.

This is a powerful graphics card for DOTA 2 and we can certainly recommend it to deliver 4K screen res at ultra settings. Get a system with at least 4GB of RAM though. The PC’s processor would also want to be around the Intel Core i7-9850H 6-Core 2.6GHz’s performance to get a smooth experience.

To summarise, with this graphics card you do not need concern yourself too much regarding DOTA 2 frame rates. Because Ultra graphics setting can be turned on across all resolutions up to 4K quite comfortably. We are seeing 4K getting 200+ FPS, 1440p will get 200+ frame rate and if you are interested then 1080p gaming can get 200+ FPS. Based around the GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q launch price, we calculate the cost per frame at different resolutions. 1080p Ultra frames will cost $0, 1440p frames cost $0 each and then the 4K costs $0 per frame.
