Our MSI GE75 Raider i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 laptop review today is going to help us understand how well the hardware components in this machine can run today’s modern games. Taking a look at some of the most demanding popular titles we will see some expected frame rates for the MSI GE75 Raider i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 laptop and understand the type of price to performance on offer.
Is the MSI GE75 Raider i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 good as a gaming laptop? Excellent
Processor - Modern AAA 2020 gaming with the Core i7-10750H 6-Core 2.60GHz processor is no problem. As it meets game requirements of today it will likely hold its own against future release titles as well, this is an excellent CPU for a gaming laptop. The 6 cores that this processor has is excellent and very capable for today and future AAA gaming.
Graphics Card - This graphics card, GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q, is excellent for running 2020 AAA titles. AAA games often want a lot of VRAM from graphics cards. This laptop GPU has 8GB of VRAM, which isexcellent for modern gaming.
System Memory - An excellent amount of system memory, the 16GB is capable of running AAA titles during the 2020 gaming year and we would expect beyond that as well.
Screen Size - This laptop panel is an excellent 2020 size at 17.3". This will certainly help gamers see in game details and text. You can game on smaller physical screens, but once you get to this sort of screen size its a nicer experience, while still providing mobile gaming.
Refresh Rate - I personally wouldnt consider getting a gaming laptop with a screen panel that had a refresh rate of 60Hz. The refresh rate number is the number of times an image can be displayed to the screen by the laptop's own screen. So if I had paid more money for a good graphics card and CPU and RAM then even though the hardware might be able to get 150FPS on Ultra settings in the latest games, the laptop screen would only display 60FPS. The more FPS capable of being displayed to screen the smoother and sharper the response of the game you are playing. An ideal minimum refresh rate amount would be around 144Hz for a great gaming laptop, but you can certainly get some with even higher refresh rates than that. The top refresh rate for this laptop is 240Hz which is excellent for gaming. Get a panel with over 60Hz refresh rate would certainly be suitable for gaming.
As gamers, one of the biggest choices we make for a new portable machine is to select a laptop with the right mobile graphics card. With this laptop we are specifically considering how the price-to-performance of the graphics card looks and if it has the capability to run modern popular games like today’s most popular titles, Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassins Creed: Valhalla in ultra graphics settings on its native 1080p resolution. Now this comes with the GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q installed as the mobile graphics card, and at the moment it is capable of running 493 games at their minimum graphics system specs and then running 380 recommended specs of today’s top 500 most demanding games.
As you have probably discovered during your research into buying your next gaming laptop, getting an up-to-date value assessment that enables you to compare a laptop’s hardware performance against today’s games is tricky. And especially so, when we factor in all variations of hardware and prices that the GE75 Raider comes with. What we have done in this MSI GE75 Raider i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 laptop review is give a price to performance rating to help standardise our comparisons.
Our price and performance review leads us to allocate all laptops a P2P rating out of 10, which is relative to all laptops for comparison purposes and gets adjusted over time as the prices for hardware adjust and new more capable hardware is created. This laptop is currently given a 0 for P2P out of 10. With a number of GE75 Raider laptops in the model lineup this particular variant places at the 5th position for Price to Performance value. Laptops closer to the top place (1st) are value gaming laptop options that deliver the best performance for the laptop price.

There is a lot of talk about getting 4K capable monitors and our review laptop has a 1080p native resolution, and a physical 17.3" panel. Lets explore if it would be better for you to grab a laptop with a 4K screen rather than the 1080p offered here? A 4K panel usually comes with 60Hz screen refresh rate that would be also setting a max FPS on any game played on the laptop, even if it’s laptop hardware could return higher FPS. Factor into the decision process about getting a 4K laptop, that most AAA games would struggle to reach 60 FPS at 4K Ultra graphics settings on today’s regular laptop hardware. What refresh rate does the MSI GE75 Raider i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 panel have available? It can be picked up with the following 240Hz refresh rates.
To get back some of those missing FPS on a AAA game we lower the game’s displayed screen resolution and get some stability in the game’s performance. This is usually a last resort for gamers though and not the sort of action taken by someone who has just shelled out for a new 4K laptop. Lowering down from a native 4K resolution, perhaps to 1080p or 1440p ups the game’s FPS but veering from the native 4K resolution leaves a game looking blurry. Definition of graphics drops and surely this puts forward the need to question someone’s choice for a 4K gaming laptop. The 1080p laptop could run games you love at 4K resolution, with a few tweaks to the graphics settings? In this situation you can always plug the gaming laptop you are not on the move, plug the laptop into a 144Hz or better desktop monitor that’s 28inches and comes with a 1440p or 4K resolution to enjoy modern gaming without FPS or size limits.
4K streaming could be a viable reason to consider 4K over 1080p laptop panels.
As you can probably gather from the information above, its probably not worth the extra cash for a 4K laptop if gaming is your Laptop purpose. 1080p is likely plenty and has enough alternative gaming options for when you want better resolution. It feels like you might not get what you were after if you picked up a shiny new 4K laptop, then was needing to lower game resolution, while getting blurry in-game experience and achieving a max 60FPS when you could push the hardware into better frame rates.
If you wanted a desktop monitor to go with the MSI GE75 Raider i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 laptop then this LG 32GK650F-B 32 inch 1440p FreeSync 1ms 144Hz would go well and has 144Hz and today’s price of $296.99. Our cheapest tracked price for the desktop 1440p monitor was $296.99, which we recorded on 23rd Nov 2020.
A well priced 4K gaming monitor with 144Hz refresh rate is the Nixeus EDG XB273K 27 inch 4K FreeSync IPS 4ms 144Hz. It has a price today of $635.04 and should be a nice accompaniment to the MSI GE75 Raider i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 laptop. Our 4k monitor price tracker recorded and marked its lowest price on 21st Nov 2020, it reached the lower price of $635.04.
[Note - check that monitor display connectors are compatible between a monitor and a laptop before purchase]
If you are looking to view 4K streaming content, while keeping yourself mobile with your laptop, then maybe a 4K resolution panel would be a better experience than the normal 1080p. In general, we think it's probably not worth the extra money for any visual gains you might not spot, without a direct comparison, especially if you are thinking to game on your laptop as well.
We think don't spend your extra cash on getting a 4K laptop to game on, as it's likely to feel disappointing to buy a super shiny new 4K laptop, then have to lower the resolution while playing your games, delivering a blurry in-game experience, and only getting up to a maximum 60FPS due to the usual 60Hz 4K panel restriction.
