FX-4100 Game Requirement Analysis

FX-4100 is a middle-class CPU based on the 32nm Bulldozer architecture.

It offers 4 Physical Cores (4 Logical), initially clocked at 3.6GHz, which may go up to 3.7GHz and 8MB of L3 Cache.
Among its many features, Turbo Core and Virtualization are activated and the clock multiplier is unlocked, meaning it can be overclocked easily.

The processor DOES NOT integrated any graphics. and has a rated board TDP of 95W.

It offers average performance. It will therefore become a bottleneck in today's demanding games.

fx 6300 if you're on a buget, if not get the 8320 or 8350… these 2 are the best of the am3+ socket

Get an amd fx 8320 or 8350…!!if!! Your mobo supports up to 125w. If not. Get an fx8320e or better yet an fx 8370e….. it means it has a w of 95… so look for the "e".

Arma is heavily reliant on your CPUs single-core performance and that's where AMD's CPUs are weak. The best thing to do would be to upgrade to something Intel, even a Pentium G3258 (which you can OC) would give better FPS. An i3 or i5 would of course be even better. This would obviously mean a new motherboard too, but if you have the money it would be well worth it. Otherwise go with above.

It's not a case of being able to run it, he clearly can, but a case of running it more fluently, as he said.

He should be able to run it 35fps+ since his cpu is bulldozer and mine is piledriver there is 15% clock for clock/IPC difference, but still, arma 3 uses more than 1 core, unlike arma 2. And yes I do recommend getting an intel i5 if he wishes to play this game, not that he will get better performance than the g3258, it's just that 4x cores is always great to have for gaming, they are not needed in 99.9% of the times, but it's just nice to have them.

I'd imagine he wants more than that since he asked. It does utilize more than 1 core, but is still reasonably heavily single-threaded, hence why I always recommend Intel for Arma. In the grand scheme of things, of course the 4 cores of the i5 are better to have for other games than the 2 of the G3258.

Get a better CPU now. I had a fx4100 before. So I feel you… get an fx 8xxxe. With an e. So you can still use your mobo. If it can't do 125w. Now is a good time to upgrade. Trust me…. with all these AAA games coming out. A poor CPU is the last thing you`ll want to have

If I had had more money, I would have obviously gone for the 4100's big brother the 8350 when building my rig. But nevertheless this processor has given me everything I need, for the most part. The only times it struggles are when I've modded a game to the underworld and back, but on vanilla, I can play most any game on with fair fps. The 4100 is a perfect mid/upper range gaming CPU.

I've overclocked mine on 4.2GHz stable, so I think that this is the read deal for games comparing to phenom II x6 1055t, I think you should get this one for gaming because it's better for in game performance, especially if you overclock it like I did on 4.2GHz…

Also, 1055t is older, it's lithography is 45nm, but overall it's better processor and as the 4100 can be overclocked, but buy it only if you already have AM3 board, if you are buying a brand new PC go with 4100, AM3 is dead socket and you 1055 is the best while in AM3+ you can upgrade to a lot better processors.
