It is best to use BIOS for OCing, while your PC boots up start pressing del button and you will enter BIOS, there you will probably see the options for changing bus speed and/or multiplier, raise your bus speed to reach 3.4GHz 2.4 is a tiny OC. CPU speed =bus speed*mulitplier, you don't want your CPU temperatures over 65 C, after OCing stress your CPU with Prime 95 and monitor your CPU temps non-stop.

Still Q6600 needs more power since it is 65nm thus more heating. Q8200 could OC more.

I have an old 945GCT-M3 motherboard with an Intel Celeron 420 processor @160mhz which I want to upgrade to an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz which I just bought. Supposedly this motherboard can support it. But when I installed the Q8200 the computer would not boot. Not even BIOS would appear.

Yes you will get more fps. Since its quite alot more powerful than your current cpu. But upgrading your GPU will give you even more fps.

You think so?! but looking at it, my E8200 has a bit faster clock @2.66 Ghz compared to this one which has 2.33 Ghz? and also 2mb less of L2 cache I'm very much confused. :(

your current CPU only has 2 cores each core = 2.66GHz. This one has 4 cores so it will perform better. Because each core running at 2.33GHz. For example. 2 core 2.66GHz so 2.66 x 2 = 5.32GHz. For 4 Core 2.33GHz 2.33 x 4 = 9.32GHz thats why This CPU better.

It's a long time ago, but what snooker said IS NOT true. You should never look how powerful a cpu is by Cores*Frequency. That's only a part of the story, as the architecture plays a huge role too. This cpu is a lot better, but not the way snooker said it…

Yeah, I figured it out myself… a quad cpu does not quadruple its clock speed, rather it processes an instruction using parallel threads. Am I right? I hope so… ;)
