Core i7-4790K 4-Core 4.0GHz is a high-end CPU based on the 22nm, Haswell architecture.
It offers 4 Physical Cores (8 Logical), initially clocked at 4.0GHz, which may go up to 4.4GHz and 8MB of L3 Cache.
Among its many features, HyperThreading, Turbo Boost and Virtualization are activated and the processor has multiplier unlocked.
The processor integrates powerful Graphics called Intel HD i7 4790K (variant of Intel HD Graphics 4600), with 20 Execution Units, initially clocked at 350MHz and that go up to 1250MHz, in Turbo Mode which share the L2 Cache and system RAM with the processor.
Both the processor and integrated graphics have a rated board TDP of 88W.
Compared to Core i7-4770K there's an overall 10% performance boost. Its performance is exceptionally good and enough for even the most demanding applications.

This CPU is da bomb ! It runs every AAA no problem with good gpu it handles everything. Pure Beast! I Wont be even switching to ryzen or 7th generation intel. This is bulletproof for next couple of years
true ive own haswell now for over 4 yrs its great still good enough to keep for more yrs and the prices to upgrade is really high and not worth yet
aww , guess u have switched to Ryzen afterall xD
good cpu i got a new one late 2017 370$ upgraded from i7 4770k
Wait why? The 4790k is just clocked higher than a 4770k so its basically the same cpu.
i know but oh well i wanted a upgrade but not change from my z97 maximus VII i use the cpu for work mostly not gaming but i could of gotten something else
though i am getting laptop with 6 core cpu for work
would this be worth upgrade from my cpu( stock speed), i play 1080p.
I have a founder's edition 1070 that appears to be bottlenecked by my i5 4400 3.1gh. Is it worth upgrading to this guy?
I use this cpu daily, not for gaming though, and I cannot recommend it for gaming. What are the kinda games you play? If you play some cpu heavy games and you can get this cpu way cheaper than 6xxx series I'd say it's an amazing cpu you can overclock pretty well.
For gaming with your gtx1070 just go blindly for the i7 4790k if it's in your budget or you might try the i5 4690k!
:-)
I will be selling my fx 6300 soon to a friend and will require a new CPU. I have been primarily looking to upgrade to either an fx 8350 or an i7 4790k (I don't want to buy new ram). I am unsure of which one to get as earlier this year I had JUST gotten a new mobo for the FX cpu so my ssd would get sata 3 access.
would it be worth the additional cost to replace my mobo another time just so i could use the intel processor? I do have a bit of a tight budget but if it helps I primarily look to play games and do 3d rendering. (6300 will be sold for around $60-70)
Your 780 deserves intel if you can afford it. ;)
intel 4790k is an awesome processor better than amd 8350 but I've heard from many reviews and friends that 8350 is pretty good for the price & since you are on tight budget you should go for the amd fx it will save a lot money for you in your situation….
About 6 months from now, I'd like to upgrade to DDR4 Ram, but in doing so, it would be forced to upgrade my MOBO and CPU, since DDR4 MOBOs are not compatible with 4th gen Intel CPUs. What card could I get that would be better for than my i7 4970k? Keep in mind that I don't overclock.
First of all, you don´t need an update, second i would go with the ASUS gtx 1080 8gb as that would be a nice ugprade and a perfect match for your CPU, but again, i would wait if i were you .
I wasn't asking about my GPU, but my CPU. I'm already planning to get an EVGA 1080 in about a month. I want to upgrade my DDR3 to DDR4 memory ram, but its not compatible with my current MOBO. As I said, when I upgrade the MOBO, I have to upgrade my CPU, as my i7 4790k will not be compatible any longer.
Why would you want to upgrade your ram?, is fast enough, it´s frecuency is not like 1600Mhz or something, better save that money for games or important stuff, but that´s just my opinion, if you want to ugprade go with an i7 6700 .
its waste mony upgrading to 6700k anyways he has fastest ram avalible on ddr3 whic is just same fast as ddr4 mostly you can go only up to 3400mhz on ddr4 but its not always stable
Ok. So basically don't upgrade at all. Got it. I just assumed that DDR4 ram was better than my current. But I'm not too tech savvy, so I didn't know that it was basically the same. Thanks guys.
What would be a good CPU upgrade for me?
Things I need:
- i5 or i7
- 4 cores
- Socket LGA 1150
- Price around $200
From your current CPU both would be an upgrade. If you are using your computer only for gaming, go for the i5. IF you are streaming, editing videos etc go for i7
Unless you can get it used for that low, a new 4790K is about $300-350 stateside. I recommend i5 4590 if you absolutely have to stay under $200. but if you would like the i7's hyperthreading, the Xeon E3 1231 is basically that but no iGPU.
This or I7 6700(non k) or the I5 6600k for gaming/coding in java?
Definitively the i7-4790k
This cpu, a gtx1070, FSP HYPER 600,12gb 1600Mhz DDR3 i need a mobo with 2ram slots 1 pci no sli need a quality mobo a bit lower in price if possible plz help me
If you plan on Overclocking, you need a more expensive Z97 motherboard,if you wont overclock get a H97,Q87,B85 etc. they all have 4 ram slots, dont support SLI
