this is a server cpu, not really intended for games. it is made to do great work with server associated work, at decent power usage. this is only @ 2,4 Ghz, and fx is at 4 (!). also, this one has one thread per core, while the fx have 2 i think. many games do not utilize the use of many cores or many threads.

No, FX has 8 cores, but divided into modules of 2 cores (making 4 modules) with one floating point unit.

my apologies. i got carried away by some intel fanboys telling me the fx 8350 is most of a quad core. but yes, i remember how it goes: ''First OCTA core in the market!''

It is. But most people hold to the fact that one core always has one FPU, which is not true. The FX series feature 8 fully pipelined cores, but 2 cores share 1 FPU.

A twelve-core (server) CPU!
Question: For games that don't really utilize more than 1 core, wouldn't such a processor (or any similar), due to its low speeds, be worse than, eg phenom ii 965be or i5 3470?

no,1 core isn't enough for game, it need at least dual core, and may be quad core is already overkill
