Core i5-3230M 2.6GHz is a middle-class mobile processor based on the 22nm, Ivy Bridge architecture.
It offers 2 Physical Cores (4 Logical), initially clocked at 2.6GHz, which may go up to 3.2GHz and 3MB of L3 Cache.
Among its many features, Turbo Boost and Virtualization are activated and the processor has multiplier unlocked.
The processor integrates mildly powerful Graphics called Intel HD Graphics 4000, with 16 Execution Units, initially clocked at 650MHz and that go up to 1100MHz, in Turbo Mode which share the L2 Cache and system RAM with the processor.
Both the processor and integrated graphics have a rated board TDP of 35W.
It offers average performance. This means it will become a bottleneck in some demanding applications.

Is this good enough with 8Gb RAM, 256Gb SSD for android development and frontend web development?
Hi i have this cpu on my laptop and i was wondering:will this bottleneck gtx 760 or a 960 in battlefield 4? Thanks in advance.
Can this CPU handle an external HD 7790 without any bottleneck?
Intel HD 4000 vs Nvidia 710M, is there even a noticeable point?
Manually Switch Graphics Cards!!!!!!
One Problem when using this CPU with any other GPU is that this CPU contains an Integrated Intel 4000 (BAD GPU) so whenever you want to play a game you need to
I'm planning to buy a notebook, but didn't decide yet which one would be better.
1.) i5-3230m, nVidia 740m 2GB DDR3 (128bit version)
or
2.) i7-4500u, Radeon HD 8850m 2GB DDR5 ?
will play games on 1366x768, so which one would perform better?
RAM and everything others is prett
Get the second one as it is well balanced, with both hardware with 7GD rank. It means that none of your component would bottleneck each other in games. When combined with 8GB ram, it could play next gen games on medium to high settings easily :D
Yeah, the Second notebook would be a better choice. At 1366x768 resolution, the second notebook will run most of the game at high settings. Also its balanced as said by Ajesh.
Hi all. This with AMD 8850M GDDR3 2GB?
should be a good match. the bottleneck will be the GPU in most games but that leaves a bit of excess CPU for stuff like music and things like that while gaming.
I actually have that exact setup and I have found it very good, A few tests have been Just Cause 2 30 FPS, High and Blacklight and War Thunder 60 FPS High
And now. How the heck is that CPU better than mine?
nice quastion :D you have the same speed per core but you have 2 cores more :DD in some games you should perform better, but in some games i think at least equally, anyway if i hade choice only between your and this cpu i would take your cpu :D:D OLD BUT GOLD
just i think "ive bridge" does it's buisness :P that's all :(((
I even have more Cache.
Structural Difference.
you sir have a nice CPU :D my dream cpu before.. but this i5 has better architecture, so.. it flies away faster than your quad.
Also i5 has Hyper-Threading technology (2 cores working on 4 threads) whereas the quad works on 4 cores and 4 threads…..
No. of cores doesn't matter. The technology of i5 is more powerful. You must have seen i3 processors. They are dual core but more powerful than many quad core processors of 2nd generation. So, i5 3230M is powerful than your quad core processor ;D
