How well can the Radeon HD 7970 OC Sapphire Edition run games
14 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

This graphics card offers upper mid level gaming performance. The Radeon HD 7970 OC Sapphire Edition GPU could struggle if it was to try and run the most demanding games available today, but it meets a lot of game system requirements found in today’s games. This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 11.

What FPS performance can the Radeon HD 7970 OC Sapphire Edition get on latest AAA 2019 games? In particular our game review looks at the FPS achieved running on Ultra graphics settings on the 1080p screen resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. The Radeon HD 7970 OC Sapphire Edition can run the recommended graphics system requirements for 294 games today, of the top 1000 most demanding.

The 1080p FPS on Ultra for the Radeon HD 7970 OC Sapphire Edition shows us that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is getting a playable result of 25 FPS, and then we are seeing FIFA 20 returning a strong 100 FPS while another game on our list is the Diablo 4 which is predicted to get 0 frames per second at Ultra 1080p.

With PC gamers looking for larger screen sizes like 1440p we tested the Radeon HD 7970 OC Sapphire Edition by playing FIFA 20 which yielded a good performance. Its FPS results for the graphics settings are as follows - L: 172FPS, M: 143FPS, H: 105FPS, U: 76FPS. Another popular game we researched with this card was Diablo 4 and that was weak. This graphics card is predicted to deliver 0 FPS at Ultra 1440p. Another popular title was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which gets weak results with a 19FPS on Ultra 1440p. Gaming at 1440p with the Radeon HD 7970 OC Sapphire Edition is a reasonable choice for most modern games at 1440p, but you may encounter some need to adjust graphics settings down from Ultra to High in some cases to improve gaming stability.

How many years will the Radeon HD 7970 OC Sapphire Edition graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon HD 7970 OC Sapphire Edition in your PC? 12-18 months of top end gaming is still left in this graphics card

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon HD 7970 OC Sapphire Edition? A great upgrade graphics card would be a 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB, which has 98% better performance and can run 897 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today. An alternative great upgrade graphics card would be a RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB, which has 48% better performance and can run 685 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today.

You can't do that with an Nvidia card unless it is also an Nvidia card. Unless your GPU is also an AMD card with SLI/Crossfire capabilities then you can crossfire it.

I have been using this card for around 6 months now. I haven't OC'd it and wish for guidance to taking full advantage of my card. Should I use the AMD CCC, Sapphire Trixxx, MSI Afterburner something else? What levels do I shoot for? Thanks!
