How well can the Radeon HD 7870 Gigabyte OC Edition run games
28 Aug 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

Getting one of these Radeon HD 7870 Gigabyte OC Edition graphics cards allows the gamer to run indie system requirements and some less demanding AAA titles. In today’s PC hardware terms these are considered middle range for gaming performance. This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 11.

How well will the Radeon HD 7870 Gigabyte OC Edition run 2019 games? We will take a look at the biggest releases and frames per second analysis on Ultra graphics settings. In comparison to the game recommended requirements of the 1000 most demanding games played today this PC hardware can run 112.

Now onto the frame rates achieved at 1080p. We are seeing Borderlands 3 getting 0FPS with the Radeon HD 7870 Gigabyte OC Edition, Red Dead Redemption 2 getting 2FPS and eFootball PES 2020 getting 33frames per second. All run on Ultra at 1920x1080 screen res.

People are turning their increasingly more powerful graphics cards to the popular 1440p screen size so we tested the Radeon HD 7870 Gigabyte OC Edition to see how it performs on 1440p. First off we have looked at Borderlands 3 where it was weak. The frame rates it scored for the game presets were - Low: 0 FPS, Medium: 0 FPS, High: 0 FPS and Ultra: 0 FPS. We added Red Dead Redemption 2 to our tests and saw it was weak with a 2 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And then tested eFootball PES 2020 which got 25 FPS at Ultra 1440p. Running games at 1440p with a Radeon HD 7870 Gigabyte OC Edition is not powerful enough to deal with the increased resolution.

How many years will the Radeon HD 7870 Gigabyte OC Edition graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon HD 7870 Gigabyte OC Edition in your PC? Its time to start researching your next graphics card upgrade as the Radeon HD 7870 Gigabyte OC Edition is failing to meet modern day gaming system requirements. A gpu AAA lifespan of around 6-12 months.

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon HD 7870 Gigabyte OC Edition? A good choice when looking to upgrade the Radeon HD 7870 Gigabyte OC Edition would be the 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB which meets 922 of the 1000 top game’s recommended system requirements and has 163% better performance. An alternative great upgrade graphics card would be a RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB, which has 93% better performance and can run 724 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today.

I dont belive so, if it dose maybe a bit, but why not check your mobo and see about droping an Fx-8320 in the rig if it suports 125W cpus, they go for about 160$

I'm hoping I can keep using this card when The Witcher 3 and Dragon Age: Inquisition are released, playing at mostly high settings. I can already guess I won't be able to max everything, at least not ubersampling (or its equivalent in TW3), and I obviously won't be able to use any of the PhysX effects with an AMD GPU alone. So far, though, it handles everything well. I don't regret getting it for current games and a few shortly upcoming releases…but there are always those face-melting eye candy games coming up down the road…

Physx with an AMD gpu is dependant upon the CPU, which is really powerful (OC'd 3570k is awesome), 7870 is still an awesome graphics card, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to play most games @1080p with AT LEAST medium setting, probably high though.

Oh yeah, I know my GPU is still pretty powerful, and will still be viable for another year or so, even with new releases (although I don't own any games that run on the Frostbite engine, so I'll see how it goes with Dragon Age III). I've tried PhysX in the Batman: Arkham games a few times, and it's…playable…but it definitely cuts the FPS in half. I have Mirror's Edge, but I haven't really played it since I got this CPU last year. There's PhysX in that game, as well, and I remember using it on my previous CPU (AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition), and the FPS was something like 5 LOL. Big mistake! I've got a really tame OC on my 3570k, so unless I OC it some more, I probably won't get much of a performance boost with PhysX enabled. Oh that reminds me: Does anyone know anybody who uses the AMD-Nvidia hybrid drivers (for AMD GPU with Nvidia GPU slaved for PhysX processing)?

Yeah should be all fine.
Although get an FX 6300 instead. It will perform much better than a 6100 and will cost much less than any of i5s ;)
if you feel like money is no problem I would say, go with an fx 8320
