How well can the GeForce GTX 780 run games
25 Mar 2020 - Graphics card reviewed

While some games have more powerful requirements than this GPU, the GeForce GTX 780 is only really challenged by the most demanding games released today, but normally it is more than capable of running games with a stable frame rate at 1080p. DirectX 11 gaming system requirements will be met by this gpu.

This PC hardware performance game review for the GeForce GTX 780 graphics card, when running 2020 more popular games, lets us see what type of FPS this card gets when playing at 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions and ultra settings. In comparison to the game recommended requirements of the 1000 most demanding games played today this PC hardware can run 238.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the GeForce GTX 780 performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Halo: The Master Chief Collection and saw it deliver playable frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 65 FPS, Medium: 51 FPS, High: 34 FPS and Ultra: 25 FPS. We proceeded to look at Resident Evil 3 Remake to see how that compared and predict that it will return a playable 41 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

With PC gamers looking for larger screen sizes like 1440p we tested the GeForce GTX 780 by playing Halo: The Master Chief Collection which yielded a weak performance. Its FPS results for the graphics settings are as follows - L: 49FPS, M: 39FPS, H: 26FPS, U: 19FPS. Another popular game we researched with this card was Resident Evil 3 Remake and that was playable. This graphics card is predicted to deliver 31 FPS at Ultra 1440p. Another popular title was Black Mesa which gets playable results with a 32FPS on Ultra 1440p. Running games at 1440p with a GeForce GTX 780 is a reasonable choice at this screen size. You can always tweak modern game graphics settings to help you get a better High graphics setting experience at 1440p.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 780 graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 780 in your PC? This GeForce GTX 780 card has 12 to 18 months of latest AAA game play left in it before upgrading should be considered

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 780? Upgrading this graphics card would have us consider the 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB which is 65% more powerful. This upgrade choice can also run 872 games from the most demanding games today. An alternative great upgrade graphics card would be a RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB, which has 29% better performance and can run 726 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today.

GeForce GTX 780 Game Requirement Analysis

GeForce GTX 780 is a high-end graphics-card based on the 28nm, Kepler architecture.
It's based on the Kepler GK110 Core (same used on Titan) but with 12 SMX activated and therefore offers 2304 Shader Processing Units, 192 TMUs and 48 ROPs on a 384-bit memory interface of fast GDDR5. While the central unit runs at 863MHz and goes up to 902MHz in Turbo, the memory clock operates at 1502MHz. It consumes up to 250W.
Benchmarks indicate that its performance is up to 30% better than previous GeForce GTX 680 and thus allows even the most demanding games to be playable at the highest settings, at 1080p. With proper overclocking and cooling, it can surpass GeForce GTX Titan.
