How well can the GeForce GTX 690 run games
12 Jan 2020 - Graphics card reviewed

Gamers upgrading will be considering the GeForce GTX 690 graphics card as a serious price to performance entry point. This card will meet and play most demanding AAA games and do so with good graphics setting as standard, and confidently pushing past the recommended game system requirements needed to run today’s games. All games with system requirements of DirectX 11 or lower are met by this card.

Here we take a closer look at the various performances across 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions for the GeForce GTX 690. In particular this is looking at the Ultra graphics settings to see what sort of FPS this graphics card can get across some of the more popular games played in 2020. This graphics hardware can run 658 of the 1000 most demanding PC games played today.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the GeForce GTX 690 performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Need For Speed Heat and saw it deliver reasonable frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 125 FPS, Medium: 99 FPS, High: 67 FPS and Ultra: 48 FPS. We proceeded to look at Red Dead Redemption 2 to see how that compared and saw that it returned a reasonable 48 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

Moving screen sizes up to 1440p we ran Need For Speed Heat on the GeForce GTX 690 to see that it got a playable set of frame rates. Here are the low to ultra results at 1440p - L: 96FPS, M: 75FPS, H: 51FPS, U: 36FPS. Another popular game to test at 1440p with this card was Red Dead Redemption 2 which seemed playable in performance netting an Ultra FPS of 36 FPS. Finally we then took a look at Cyberpunk 2077 where its predicted Ultra 1440p Frame rates were weak at 24 FPS. Looking at a few of these 1440p results for the GeForce GTX 690 we get the impression that it is certainly a viable option for these higher gaming resolutions. Remember that if you suffer some 1440p FPS drops the you can usually tweak modern game graphics settings until you get a near High graphics setting experience with this Graphics card.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 690 graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 690 in your PC? There is still 2 years of top end gaming left in this GeForce GTX 690

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 690? If you want an upgrade suggestion for the GeForce GTX 690 then a good choice would be 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB as this is better than 882 of the top 1000 most demanding game requirements with 33% better performance as well. Alternatively if you are thinking of upgrading this graphics card then we would currently suggest the R-500 Series Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB. This PC hardware upgrade performs 40% better and can run 955 of today’s 1000 most demanding PC games.

GeForce GTX 690 Game Requirement Analysis

GeForce GTX 690 is a dual-GPU graphics card solution of two GeForce GTX 680 (not SLI) and part of the 600 Series released by NVIDIA in 2012.
As usual and a hindrance of dual-GPU graphics cards, the clock frequencies had to be reduced. However, NVIDIA managed to almost double-cross this problem by developing Turbo Boost technology that sets the GPU's core clock from 915 to 1019MHz. The other specs, such as the number of cores, memory speed, and memory bandwidth per GPU are the same on both cards.
The Performance is mind-blowing and indicated for gamers that use demanding technologies, such as Tesselation, paired with extreme resolutions and on games already Very Demanding from the start, such as Metro 2033 and The Witcher 2. GeForce GTX 690 is less expensive and energy consuming than GTX 680 put in Dual SLI.

the hd 7850 for 150$ is great and it plays all current games 1080p ultra with more than 60 fps, except crysis 3 and far cry 3 where you just have to lower the Anti-Aliasing and get 60fps. And at 1080p you don't really need Anti-Aliasing if you ask me :)
