A true powerhouse, the GeForce RTX 3090 will run even the most demanding game system requirements released today. Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 12 requirement.

Here we take a closer look at the various performances across 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions for the GeForce RTX 3090. In particular this is looking at the Ultra graphics settings to see what sort of FPS this graphics card can get across some of the more popular games played in 2020. Of the 1000 most demanding recommended specs found in game requirements today, this gpu is more powerful than the graphics requirement of 1000 games in todays list.

With 1080p being the most common gaming resolution at the moment we explored how well the GeForce RTX 3090 can run Doom Eternal at 1080p and saw it return strong frame rates at the following graphics settings - Low: 304 FPS, Medium: 239 FPS, High: 161 FPS and Ultra: 115 FPS. For performance contrast we can see that Call of Duty Warzone returns a strong 107 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

One of the growing popular screen resolutions for PC gaming is the wider 1440p. So we wanted to see how well the GeForce RTX 3090 performed at 1440p by taking a look at some of the current popular games. First we looked at Doom Eternal and saw it deliver strong frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 232 FPS, Medium: 182 FPS, High: 123 FPS and Ultra: 88 FPS. We then checked the performance on Call of Duty Warzone to see if that runs well. It was strong with a 82 FPS at Ultra 1440p. In summary we feel the GeForce RTX 3090 running at 1440p is one of the more powerful graphics cards for this monitor resolution. Games will be running with stable frame rates at Ultra on a 1440p setup. 4K gaming for a number of modern games should also be considered with this graphics hardware.

Overview
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 is the top RTX 30 Series graphics card and considered an Enthusiast graphics card based on the Ampere architecture.


Architecture
The Ampere architecture represents a process shrink down to 7nm compared to 12nm Turing. The Ampere architecture provides the world's next consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX.


GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed Ampere GA102 which has 5120 Shader Processing Units, 320 TMUs, and 96 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1520MHz and goes up to 2153MHz in Boost mode. It also has 610 Tensor Cores for AI purposes and 72 RT Cores for real-time ray-tracing.


Memory
The GPU accesses a 24GB frame buffer of second-gen GDDR6X memory through a 384-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1750MHz, or 14GHz effective.


Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 350W, it requires at least a 650W PSU with two 8-pin power connectors.


System Suggestions
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840x2160. We recommend a top-End Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for optimal performance.
