How well can the Radeon Pro VII 16GB run games
22 May 2020 - Graphics card reviewed

A true powerhouse, the Radeon Pro VII 16GB will run even the most demanding game system requirements released today. Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 12 requirement.

This PC hardware performance game review for the Radeon Pro VII 16GB graphics card, when running 2020 more popular games, lets us see what type of FPS this card gets when playing at 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions and ultra settings. In comparison to the game recommended requirements of the 1000 most demanding games played today this PC hardware can run 997.

Running at 1080p this card gets a strong frame rate from Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord with 110 FPS on Ultra. Then we take a look at Crucible which returns a strong 118 FPS. Another title that we looked at is the popular Valorant which we predict will get a strong 1116 FPS.

Moving screen sizes up to 1440p we ran Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord on the Radeon Pro VII 16GB to see that it got a strong set of frame rates. Here are the low to ultra results at 1440p - L: 220FPS, M: 174FPS, H: 117FPS, U: 84FPS. Another popular game to test at 1440p with this card was Crucible which seemed strong in performance netting an Ultra FPS of 90 FPS. Finally we then took a look at Valorant where its predicted Ultra 1440p Frame rates were strong at 851 FPS. Gaming at 1440p with the Radeon Pro VII 16GB is more than capable at running this screen resolution. 1440p Ultra across almost all modern games is going to be fairly standard with this GPU. We would consider moving this hardware up to 4K screen resolutions for PC gaming today.

How many years will the Radeon Pro VII 16GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon Pro VII 16GB in your PC? 2-3 years of top end gaming before an upgrade

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon Pro VII 16GB? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the Radeon Pro VII 16GB.

Radeon Pro VII 16GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The AMD Radeon Pro VII 16GB HBM2 is an Enthusiast Graphics Card based on the fifth (5.1) Revision of the Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture.

Architecture
Vega 20 XT GPU offers support for second-gen HBM2 Memory, DirectX 12.0 and Open GL 4.5.
The Vega 20 XT is the first ever 7nm gaming GPU and is the Full Variant of the GPU with 60 Compute Units activated, offering 3840 Shader Processing Units, 240 TMUs and 64 ROPs.

GPU
The Central Unit is clocked at 1400MHz with a boost clock speed of 1700MHz.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with 16GB of stacked HBM2 Memory and accesses the Frame Buffer through a 4096-bit memory interface, offering total memory bandwidth of 1TB/s. HBM2 memory is clocked at 1000MHz base clock, or 2000 MHz effective speed.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to 16GB. Under most circumstances, this only proves useful in certain 3D Games whose Settings Require Large Amounts of Memory but it makes the Radeon Pro VII a great GPU for memory-intensive programs.
The GPU itself is aimed for 8K video processing.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 250W, it requires at least a 600W PSU with one available 8-pin connector and one available 6-pin connector.

Performance
The Radeon Pro VII 16GB is in in the same region of performance as the GeForce RTX 2080, although it does lack ray-tracing support. However, the ultra-wide HBM2 memory may offer the Radeon RX Vega an advantage at higher resolutions.

System Suggestions
AMD Radeon VII 16GB HBM2 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840 x2160 (4K). We recommend a Very Strong Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
