How well can the GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q run games
10 Feb 2020 - Graphics card reviewed

One of the more powerful mid range graphics cards, the GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q might struggle sometimes with the more system demanding game requirements. All games with system requirements of DirectX 12 or lower are met by this card.

Here is a performance review on how capable the GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q is at running the more popular games of 2020. Specifically looking at this PC hardware’s ability to get suitable frames per second to play on Ultra game settings and what FPS it might get on 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen res. In comparison to the game recommended requirements of the 1000 most demanding games played today this PC hardware can run 228.

Running at 1080p this card is predicted to get a weak frame rate from Microsoft Flight Simulator with 3 FPS on Ultra. Then we take a look at Doom Eternal which is predicted to return a playable 34 FPS. Another title that we looked at is the popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which we saw getting a weak 21 FPS.

We move on to 1440p, and predict that Microsoft Flight Simulator will deliver weak FPS results. Here are the graphic presets - Low: 6 FPS, Medium: 5 FPS, High: 3 FPS and Ultra: 2 FPS. Next we have Doom Eternal running on GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q which is predicted to get L: 68FPS, M: 54FPS, H: 36FPS, U: 26FPS. And for performance contrast the popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare gets L: 41FPS, M: 33FPS, H: 22FPS, U: 16FPS at 1440p. Gaming at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q is not the best resolution for this GPU, but if you adjust some graphics settings, perhaps lowering to medium or low at 1440p then this graphics card might be ok.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q in your PC? This GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q card has 12 to 18 months of latest AAA game play left in it before upgrading should be considered

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q? A suitable upgrade choice for the GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q is the 20 Series GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile, which is 73% more powerful and can run 854 of the 1000 most demanding PC games beating their recommended requirements. Alternatively if you are thinking of upgrading this graphics card then we would currently suggest the RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500M 8GB. This PC hardware upgrade performs 36% better and can run 520 of today’s 1000 most demanding PC games.

GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q is a mid-range GeForce 16 Series graphics card for laptops based on the Turing GPU architecture. It is smaller and doesn't drain the battery as fast compared to the mobile version, but it is weaker in performance.

Architecture
The Turing architecture represents a process shrink down to 12nm compared to 14nm Pascal. Unlike the RTX series, the GTX series does not support real-time ray-tracing.

GPU
It equips a Turing GPU codenamed TU116, which has 1024 Shader Processing Units, 64 TMUs, 32 ROPs and 16 SMs. The central unit runs at 930 MHz and goes up to 1125 MHz in Boost mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 4GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR5 memory through a 128-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1000MHz, or 8GHz effective.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 30W the GTX 1650 Max-Q is averagely resource-intensive and will fairly significantly reduce laptop battery life at full load.

System Suggestions
GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1600x900. We recommend a mid-range Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for optimal performance.
