Overview
GeForce GTX 580 is a High-End Graphics Card based on the Fermi Architecture.
Architecture
The Fermi Architecture was first manufactured with a 40nm technology and uses a technique known as Hot Clocking: The Shaders are clocked twice as fast as the Central Unit. While this leads to a reasonable performance boost, it causes enormous amounts of energy dissipation, leading, ultimately, to a significantly higher operating temperature.
Fermi is also the first GPU architecture with fully cached memory access which increases memory performance.
GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed GF110-375-A1 which has 16 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 512 Shader Processing Units, 64 TMUs and 48 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 772MHz.
Memory
The GPU accesses a 1.5GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 384-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 1002Hz.
Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 244W, it requires at least a 600W PSU with one available 6-pin and one available 8-pin connectors.
Performance
GeForce GTX 580 competes with Radeon HD 6970 and proves to be around 10% faster.
System Suggestions
GeForce GTX 580 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080. We recommend a Decent Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.

Bought one of these in 2011, and it was amazing. Got another one in 2012 and it got even better. Now I'm with a laptop, but these served me well. Played everything I threw at them maxed out at 1080p without a hitch. highly recommend
will my cpu bottleneck this gpu?
Nope your fine :D
This one or Radeon R9 270 DirectCU II OC Edition ???
I should go with neither, go for the r9 370 then. About the same price but much better performance. and if you have a little more to spend go for the 380! Happy Gaming!
I'm considering building a new PC, but I'm just wondering, will a FX-6300 be a good match with this card?
Better buy Radeon R9 270X or Radeon HD 7950, or maybe Radeon R9 280 / Radeon R7 260X Crossfired.
i could run bf4 max with a average of 61 fps with no bottle neck
,look at my rig and your question is answered lol
Probably one of the greatest GPU's I've ever had, and I'll keep using it until it's totally broken, I love it!
What kind of res is that? I wanna know. No offense
@oraapje Can the 580 still max out current games? your resolution is really wierd.
Yes, a gtx 580 is sufficient to max out games. Max 1920x1080p.
guys will this bottleneck on my cpu? , phenom x4 965 be the c3 version , i will upgrade in future but on low budget so i wanted to get this graphics card because its cheap but very fast i will also uprade psu before i buy card but will it bottle neck on my cpu? if so will it be severe? thanks!
nope no bottleneck.
My Amd phenom II X 4 965 BE was bottle necking my GTX 660 .. I used to get 20 - 30 fps for some CPU dependent games like SC blacklist, Bttlefield 4, Assasins creed III.. Now i changed to intel i7 4770 and i get solid fps in all games now… CPU really matters for some games…
yeah I've got a hd 7870 now and i have to say it does feel sluggish in games, hopefully when i get my new CPU i can see a bit improvement :D
7% better than a gtx 590
30% better than a gtx 580
38% better than a gtx 570
wut
Should I go Sli 580 or just save money for a single 780?
I always prefer a single card than going sli
Nvidia is known for having very few microstutters even in sli. Nowadays with latest driers the stutters are unnoticable. For me, go for sli.
no go for a 780…..less power consumed by a boat load. Lower temps and of course the wait for efficient drivers to be released.
Sli 580s are old tech and very power hungry compared to a single 780
oh wait u did lol…. disregard…good choice
Sorry man I thought you said 680. I read it your comment wrong. No wonder. I wonder why I see a 6 in ever 80 digits.
Has my card got more or the same power than this one, the GTX 580?
580 is better, 660 is good though, and fermi cards had terrible power efficiency,
awesome! the same!
