How well can the GeForce GTX 580 run games
28 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

Getting one of these GeForce GTX 580 graphics cards allows the gamer to run indie system requirements and some less demanding AAA titles. In today’s PC hardware terms these are considered middle range for gaming performance. This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 12.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 580 graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 580 in your PC? This GeForce GTX 580 graphics card has reached the end of its ability to run games released today. If you have it in your gaming PC then it’s time to upgrade your graphics solution.

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 580? A suitable upgrade choice for the GeForce GTX 580 is the 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB, which is 166% more powerful and can run 898 of the 1000 most demanding PC games beating their recommended requirements. Alternatively we would suggest getting a RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB, as it can run 672 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today with 95% increased graphics performance.

GeForce GTX 580 Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
GeForce GTX 580 is a High-End Graphics Card based on the Fermi Architecture.

Architecture
The Fermi Architecture was first manufactured with a 40nm technology and uses a technique known as Hot Clocking: The Shaders are clocked twice as fast as the Central Unit. While this leads to a reasonable performance boost, it causes enormous amounts of energy dissipation, leading, ultimately, to a significantly higher operating temperature.
Fermi is also the first GPU architecture with fully cached memory access which increases memory performance.

GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed GF110-375-A1 which has 16 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 512 Shader Processing Units, 64 TMUs and 48 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 772MHz.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 1.5GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 384-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 1002Hz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 244W, it requires at least a 600W PSU with one available 6-pin and one available 8-pin connectors.

Performance
GeForce GTX 580 competes with Radeon HD 6970 and proves to be around 10% faster.

System Suggestions
GeForce GTX 580 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080. We recommend a Decent Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.

I did a whole heap of comparisons and found the gtx580 to be the best performing card of them all. Gtx 590 and hd6990 are both overpriced heaps of shit and perhaps even the 6970. If the price is too dear try to find a gtx570, they are the next best performer or an hd6950 if you like ati.

The best value card i can suggest is the hd 6770! Bang for buck that is.
