How well can the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X run games
14 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

The GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X is a high performing piece of gaming hardware, still confidently featuring in PC gamer computers. Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 12 requirement.

Game performance for the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X where we look at the bigger games played in 2019. Looking closely at the graphics card frame rate performance on Ultra graphics settings at 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions. This graphics hardware can run 855 of the 1000 most demanding PC games played today.

Now onto the frame rates achieved at 1080p. We are seeing Planet Zoo getting 38 FPS with the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X, Death Stranding predicted to get 38 FPS and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare getting 49 frames per second. All run on Ultra at 1920x1080 screen res.

As the PC gaming masses explore larger screen resolutions we decided to run some game checks at 1440p across a few popular games. We discovered the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X ran Planet Zoo to a playable performance level. Results across the graphics settings looked like this, Low: 77 FPS, Medium: 60 FPS, High: 41 FPS and Ultra: 29 FPS. Another game researched was Death Stranding with predictions of L: 77FPS, M: 60FPS, H: 41FPS, U: 29FPS. And then we checked graphics card performance on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which returned L: 99FPS, M: 78FPS, H: 52FPS, U: 37FPS at 1440p. 1440p GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X PC gaming is not a bad choice for a larger screen size like this. Some games will struggle though, but with some careful graphic option adjustments in-game you can normally find a suitable visual experience with this GPU at 1440p.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X in your PC? No graphics card upgrade required for 2 to 3 years of meeting top end game system requirements

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X? If you want an upgrade suggestion for the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X then a good choice would be 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB as this is better than 900 of the top 1000 most demanding game requirements with 21% better performance as well. Alternatively upgrading this graphics card would have us consider the R-500 Series Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB which is 27% more powerful. This upgrade choice can also run 961 games from the most demanding games today.

GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X is a Performance Graphics Card based on the Pascal Architecture and a minor revision of the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB.

Architecture
It equips a cut-down GPU Codenamed GP104 which is a First Gen Pascal GPU amd has 10 SM activated, offering 1280 Shader Processing Units, 80 TMUs and 48 ROPs.

GPU
The central unit runs at 1506MHz and goes up to 1709MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of Fast GDDR5X, through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 2500MHz. This compares to GDDR5 on the standard GTX 1060 6GB model, which operates at 2002 MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 120W, it requires at least a 400W PSU with one available 6-pin connector.

Performance
Benchmarks Indicate that GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X offers Performance around the Level of GeForce GTX 980. As such, GeForce GTX 1060 is almost twice as fast as GeForce GTX 960.

System Suggestions
GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440. We recommend a High-End Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.

The memory clock is not 2500 mhz but 1001 mhz but because it is gddr5x it runs on effective 8008 mhz same as the gddr5 variant with its 2002 mhz mem clock. Therefore it has the same 192,2 GB/sec bandwidth.
