How well can the Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Nitro+ 4GB run games
14 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

The Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Nitro+ 4GB is a high performing piece of gaming hardware, still confidently featuring in PC gamer computers. All games with system requirements of DirectX 12 or lower are met by this card.

Lets look at the Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Nitro+ 4GB game performance guide for some of the biggest games played in 2019. In particular we will see how well this graphics card runs on Ultra settings on 1080p resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. This graphics hardware can run 752 of the 1000 most demanding PC games played today.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Nitro+ 4GB performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and saw it deliver reasonable frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 137 FPS, Medium: 108 FPS, High: 73 FPS and Ultra: 52 FPS. We proceeded to look at Red Dead Redemption 2 to see how that compared and saw that it returned a reasonable 52 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

People are turning their increasingly more powerful graphics cards to the popular 1440p screen size so we tested the Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Nitro+ 4GB to see how it performs on 1440p. First off we have looked at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare where it was playable. The frame rates it scored for the game presets were - Low: 105 FPS, Medium: 82 FPS, High: 56 FPS and Ultra: 40 FPS. We added Red Dead Redemption 2 to our tests and saw it was playable with a 40 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And then tested FIFA 20 which got 118 FPS at Ultra 1440p. Gaming at 1440p with the Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Nitro+ 4GB is a very good hardware option at these screen sizes. Ultra is easily achieved across almost all games at 1440p and we would suggest an increase of screen size up to 4K for this graphics card.

How many years will the Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Nitro+ 4GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Nitro+ 4GB in your PC? No graphics card upgrade required for around 2 years

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Nitro+ 4GB? A great upgrade graphics card would be a 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB, which has 29% better performance and can run 901 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today. Alternatively a good upgrade choice for this graphics card today would be the R-500 Series Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB. For comparison of the 1000 most demanding games around today this suggested upgrade is 36% better and can meet 962 of their recommended requirements.

Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Nitro+ 4GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
First off we should point out that this is not the new AMD Vega graphics card line. The new AMD Radeon RX 500 series are an uprated version of the RX 400 series that they are replacing. This Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+ graphics card is one of the two more powerful models from the new AMD Radeon RX 500 Series.

This RX 580 is the 4GB version and there is also the higher VRAM version, RX580 8GB available.

Architecture
It equips a GPU codenamed Polaris 20 XTX, which has 2304 shader processing units, 144 TMUs and 32 ROPs.

GPU
The Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Nitro+ 4GB central processing unit runs at 1257MHz and goes up to a top 1411MHz when in boost and turbo mode with the reference RX 580 card's boost is 1340MHz.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 4GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock operates at 1750MHz.

Power Consumption
The RX 580 4GB has a power TDP requirement of 150W. This means it will require at least a 500W PSU with one dedicated 8-pin connector.

Performance
Early benchmarks indicate that the AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB will be similar in performance to the Nvidia GTX 1060 in terms of gaming performance. This puts the RX 580 4GB about 8% faster than the model it replaced, the AMD Radeon RX 480 4GB. Comparing the RX 580 to RX 570 we see 1440p frame rates around 8-15% better with the RX580 version

System Suggestions
The new Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+ 4GB released on the 18th April 2017 and is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440. We recommend a high-end processor, like the new Ryzen R5 and at least 8GB of RAM for optimal gaming performance.
