How well can the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti PNY 4GB run games
31 Oct 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

One of the more powerful mid range graphics cards, the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti PNY 4GB might struggle sometimes with the more system demanding game requirements. DirectX 12 gaming system requirements will be met by this gpu.

Here is a performance review on how capable the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti PNY 4GB is at running the more popular games of 2019. Specifically looking at this PC hardware’s ability to get suitable frames per second to play on Ultra game settings and what FPS it might get on 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen res. We look at 1000 of the most demanding games available today and this GPU is better than the recommended graphics requirement of more than 346 games in the list.

Now onto the frame rates achieved at 1080p. We are seeing FIFA 20 getting 91 FPS with the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti PNY 4GB, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare getting 18 FPS and Red Dead Redemption 2 getting 24 frames per second. All run on Ultra at 1920x1080 screen res.

As the PC gaming masses explore larger screen resolutions we decided to run some game checks at 1440p across a few popular games. We discovered the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti PNY 4GB ran FIFA 20 to a good performance level. Results across the graphics settings looked like this, Low: 157 FPS, Medium: 130 FPS, High: 96 FPS and Ultra: 70 FPS. Another game tested was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, L: 36FPS, M: 29FPS, H: 19FPS, U: 14FPS. And then we checked graphics card performance on Red Dead Redemption 2, which returned L: 47FPS, M: 37FPS, H: 25FPS, U: 18FPS at 1440p. Gaming at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti PNY 4GB is a reasonable choice for most modern games at 1440p, but you may encounter some need to adjust graphics settings down from Ultra to High in some cases to improve gaming stability.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti PNY 4GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti PNY 4GB in your PC? 12-18 months of top end gaming is still left in this graphics card

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti PNY 4GB? A good choice when looking to upgrade the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti PNY 4GB would be the 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB which meets 901 of the 1000 top game’s recommended system requirements and has 91% better performance. Alternatively a suitable upgrade choice for the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti PNY 4GB is the RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB, which is 43% more powerful and can run 694 of the 1000 most demanding PC games beating their recommended requirements.

GeForce GTX 1050 Ti PNY 4GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview

The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti PNY edition is a small form factor version of Nvidia's lower end graphics card. It is competing against AMDs more affordable gaming cards, like the newer RX 470. It features a non stock fan.

Architecture

The Pascal Architecture aims for twice as much performance as the Maxwell Architecture and introduces support for second gen HBM.

GPU

It equips a GPU codenamed GP107-400 which has 6 SM activated and 768 Shader Processing Units, 48 TMUs and 32 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1290MHz and goes up to 1392MHz when the Boost Clock is triggered in game.

Memory

The GPU accesses a 4GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 3504MHz.

Power Consumption

With a rated board TDP of 75W, it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Performance

The PNY's GTX 1050 Ti will enable mid level graphics performance on modern AAA 2016 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect this card to deliver around 55+ FPS on medium graphics settings at a 1080p screen resolution.
Comparatively, this card will be faster than the performance of the outgoing GTX 960

System Suggestions

This card is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080. We recommend a modern CPU like the i5-6500 and 8GB of RAM for minimal system bottleneck.
