How well can the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB run games
31 Oct 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

This graphics card offers upper mid level gaming performance. The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB GPU could struggle if it was to try and run the most demanding games available today, but it meets a lot of game system requirements found in today’s games. DirectX 12 gaming system requirements will be met by this gpu.

Here is a quick game performance synopsis for the AAA games played in 2019. In particular we focus on how well the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB runs at Ultra graphics settings and what frames per second it is getting at 1080p, 1440p and 4K monitor resolutions. 347 games can be played by this graphics card of the 1000 most demanding games being played by PC gamers today.

Looking at some of the modern popular games people are playing today the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB is running Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and delivering weak performances on 1080p Ultra, getting 22 frames per second. Comparing this to Microsoft Flight Simulator which is predicted to get weak results, where it averages 5 FPS. Another popular game we looked at is The Outer Worlds, which is running at 27 frames per second.

One of the growing popular screen resolutions for PC gaming is the wider 1440p. So we wanted to see how well the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB performed at 1440p by taking a look at some of the current popular games. First we looked at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and saw it deliver weak frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 44 FPS, Medium: 35 FPS, High: 23 FPS and Ultra: 17 FPS. We then checked the performance on Microsoft Flight Simulator to predict if that will run well. It is predicted to be weak with a 3 FPS at Ultra 1440p. 1440p gaming on the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB is unable to perform adequately across modern games at this increased resolution.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB in your PC? Our current calculations suggest a graphics card upgrade will be required in around 12-18 months

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB? Upgrading this graphics card would have us consider the 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB which is 83% more powerful. This upgrade choice can also run 900 games from the most demanding games today. An alternative great upgrade graphics card would be a RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB, which has 37% better performance and can run 691 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today.

GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview

The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OC is one of Gigabyte's versions of Nvidia's lower end graphics card. It is competing against AMDs more affordable gaming cards, like the newer RX 470. This card features a Windforce 2X cooling system and an overclocked core speed.

Architecture

The Pascal Architecture aims for twice as much performance as the Maxwell Architecture and introduces support for second gen HBM.

GPU

It equips a GPU codenamed GP107-400 which has 6 SM activated and 768 Shader Processing Units, 48 TMUs and 32 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1341MHz and goes up to 1455MHz when the Boost Clock is triggered in OC mode.

Memory

The GPU accesses a 4GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 3504MHz.

Power Consumption

With a rated board TDP of 75W, it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Performance

The GTX 1050 Ti OC will enable mid level graphics performance on modern AAA 2016 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect this card to deliver around 57+ FPS on medium graphics settings at a 1080p screen resolution.
Comparatively, this card will be faster than the performance of the outgoing GTX 960

System Suggestions

Gigabyte's GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OC is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080. We recommend a modern CPU like the i5-6500 and 8GB of RAM for minimal system bottleneck.
