How well can the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB run games
28 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

A mid level piece of gaming hardware, this GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB graphics card can still meet and run indie system requirements and some of the less demanding AAA games. DirectX 12 gaming system requirements will be met by this gpu.

Lets look at the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB game performance guide for some of the biggest games played in 2019. In particular we will see how well this graphics card runs on Ultra settings on 1080p resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. In terms of performance against the most demanding games today this graphics card can play 207 of the 1000 most demanding PC games beating their recommended requirements.

Now onto the frame rates achieved at 1080p. We predict that Cyberpunk 2077 will get 0 FPS with the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB, Star Wars: Jedi - Fallen Order getting 0 FPS and The Outer Worlds getting 17 frames per second. All run on Ultra at 1920x1080 screen res.

Moving screen sizes up to 1440p we researched Cyberpunk 2077 on the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB and predict it will get a weak set of frame rates. Here are the low to ultra predictions at 1440p - L: 0FPS, M: 0FPS, H: 0FPS, U: 0FPS. Another popular game to test at 1440p with this card was Star Wars: Jedi - Fallen Order which seemed weak in performance netting an Ultra FPS of 0 FPS. Finally we then took a look at The Outer Worlds where its Ultra 1440p Frame rates were weak at 13 FPS. Gaming at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB is not going to be able to maintain a playable game at this resolution.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB in your PC? We think this GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB has around 6-12 months until an upgrade should be considered.

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB? If you want an upgrade suggestion for the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB then a good choice would be 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB as this is better than 898 of the top 1000 most demanding game requirements with 113% better performance as well. Alternatively a good upgrade choice for this graphics card today would be the RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB. For comparison of the 1000 most demanding games around today this suggested upgrade is 56% better and can meet 671 of their recommended requirements.

GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
This is MSI's no frills, yet slightly overclocked version of the GTX 1050, Nvidia's lower end graphics card designed to compete against AMDs more affordable gaming cards, like the RX 460 or RX 470. This card features an overclocked boost function and a single fan cooling system, the number of fans being the only difference between it and it's OC GT cousin.

Architecture

The Pascal Architecture aims for twice as much performance as the Maxwell Architecture and Introduces support for Second Gen HBM.

GPU

It equips a GPU Codenamed GP107-400 which has 5 SM activated and thus 640 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 32 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1404MHz and goes up to 1518MHz with the Boost Clock.

Memory

The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface, while the memory clock Operates at 3504MHz which is outstanding.

Power Consumption

With a rated board TDP of 75W, it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Performance

This card will enable mid level graphics performance on modern AAA 2016 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect it to deliver around 54+ FPS on medium graphics settings at a 1080p screen resolution.
This card will be ever so slightly faster than the performance of the outgoing GTX 960

System Suggestions

The GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080 so we recommend 1600x900 in order to get the most out of your graphical settings. We recommend a High-End Processor such as the i5-6500 and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.

Impressive so far from just trying it out today. BF1 ultra, BF4 ultra, Arma 3 Apex High and pretty much always over 60 fps. Except BF1 is usually 49+ fps. 56 average on BF1 ultra. Although my RAM limits it at a lot of scenes. No OC added
