As the PC gaming masses explore larger screen resolutions we decided to run some game checks at 1440p across a few popular games. We predict the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI Gaming 2GB will run the upcoming game Death Stranding to a weak performance level. Predictions across the graphics settings looked like this, Low: 0 FPS, Medium: 0 FPS, High: 0 FPS and Ultra: 0 FPS. Another game tested was FIFA 20, L: 140FPS, M: 117FPS, H: 86FPS, U: 62FPS. And then we checked graphics card performance on Red Dead Redemption 2, which returned L: 30FPS, M: 24FPS, H: 16FPS, U: 11FPS at 1440p. Looking at a few of these 1440p results for the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI Gaming 2GB we get the impression that it is not going to be able to keep stable frame rates at all times at Ultra 1440p on modern games.

GeForce GTX 1050 MSI Gaming 2GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview

This is MSI's gaming variant of the Nvidia Geforce 1050 2GB card, a card designed to compete against AMDs more affordable gaming cards, like the RX 460 or RX 470. This version of the card comes equipped with a boosted core clockspeed, LED lights and a Twin Frozr VI cooling system.

Architecture
The Pascal Architecture aims for twice as much performance as the Maxwell Architecture and Introduces support for Second Gen HBM.

GPU

It equips a GPU Codenamed GP107-400 which has 5 SM activated and thus 640 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 32 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1379MHz and goes up to 1493MHz with the Boost Clock.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface, while the memory clock Operates at 3504MHz which is outstanding.

Power Consumption

With a rated board TDP of 75W, it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Performance
This card will enable mid level graphics performance on modern AAA 2016 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect it to deliver around 54+ FPS on medium graphics settings at a 1080p screen resolution.

This card will be ever so slightly faster than the performance of the outgoing GTX 960

System Suggestions
The GeForce GTX 1050 MSI Gaming 2GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080 so we would recommend 1600x900 as our optimal resolution to let you get the most out of your settings. We recommend a High-End Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
