How well can the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti MSI Gaming X 4GB run games
31 Oct 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

One of the more powerful mid range graphics cards, the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti MSI Gaming X 4GB might struggle sometimes with the more system demanding game requirements. DirectX 12 gaming system requirements will be met by this gpu.

What FPS performance can the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti MSI Gaming X 4GB get on latest AAA 2019 games? In particular our game review looks at the FPS achieved running on Ultra graphics settings on the 1080p screen resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. We look at 1000 of the most demanding games available today and this GPU is better than the recommended graphics requirement of more than 355 games in the list.

The 1080p FPS on Ultra for the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti MSI Gaming X 4GB shows us that The Outer Worlds is getting a playable result of 28 FPS, and then we are seeing Microsoft Flight Simulator predicted to return a weak 7 FPS while another game on our list is the Red Dead Redemption 2 which is getting 28 frames per second at Ultra 1080p.

People are turning their increasingly more powerful graphics cards to the popular 1440p screen size so we tested the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti MSI Gaming X 4GB to see how it performs on 1440p. First off we have researched Microsoft Flight Simulator and predict it will be weak. The frame rates predicted for the game presets were - Low: 13 FPS, Medium: 10 FPS, High: 7 FPS and Ultra: 5 FPS. We added Red Dead Redemption 2 to our tests and saw it was weak with a 21 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And then tested The Outer Worlds which got 21 FPS at Ultra 1440p. Gaming at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti MSI Gaming X 4GB is not a first choice gaming resolution. While this graphics card would likely be more suited to 1080p gaming, you may be able to make some graphical tweaks in the game options to improve your stability at 1440p.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti MSI Gaming X 4GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti MSI Gaming X 4GB in your PC? 12-18 months of top end gaming is still left in this graphics card

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti MSI Gaming X 4GB? A good upgrade choice for this graphics card today would be the 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB. For comparison of the 1000 most demanding games around today this suggested upgrade is 80% better and can meet 900 of their recommended requirements. An alternative great upgrade graphics card would be a RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB, which has 34% better performance and can run 691 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today.

GeForce GTX 1050 Ti MSI Gaming X 4GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gaming X 4GB is MSi's higher end take of one of Nvidia's lower end graphics card. It is competing against AMDs more affordable gaming cards, like the newer RX 470. Part of the Gaming X series, this card features a boosted core clock, Twin Frozr VI cooling system and the usual RGB LED's on the card.

Architecture
The Pascal Architecture aims for twice as much performance as the Maxwell Architecture and introduces support for second gen HBM.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed GP107-400 which has 6 SM activated and 768 Shader Processing Units, 48 TMUs and 32 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1379MHz and goes up to 1493MHz when the Boost Clock is triggered in game.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 4GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 3504MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 75W, it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Performance
The GTX 1050 ti Gaming X will enable mid level graphics performance on modern AAA 2016 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect the Nvidia GTX 1050 ti Gaming X to deliver around 60+ FPS on medium graphics settings at a 1080p screen resolution.
The GTX 1050 ti will be ever so slightly faster than the performance of the outgoing GTX 960

System Suggestions
The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gaming X by MSI is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080. We recommend a modern CPU like the i5-6500 and 8GB of RAM for minimal system bottleneck.

I have this card, it has a 6-pin PCI-E connector and will not run without it.
So the review from LifeFace is incorrect.
