How well can the GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA FTW+ ACX 3.0 3GB run games
31 Oct 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

The GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA FTW+ ACX 3.0 3GB is a high performing piece of gaming hardware, still confidently featuring in PC gamer computers. GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA FTW+ ACX 3.0 3GB is capable of DirectX 12 gaming requirements.

What FPS performance can the GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA FTW+ ACX 3.0 3GB get on latest AAA 2019 games? In particular our game review looks at the FPS achieved running on Ultra graphics settings on the 1080p screen resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. Of the 1000 most demanding recommended specs found in game requirements today, this gpu is more powerful than the graphics requirement of 722 games in todays list.

With 1080p being the most common gaming resolution at the moment we explored how well the GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA FTW+ ACX 3.0 3GB can run FIFA 20 at 1080p and saw it return strong frame rates at the following graphics settings - Low: 304 FPS, Medium: 254 FPS, High: 186 FPS and Ultra: 135 FPS. For performance contrast we can see that Red Dead Redemption 2 returns a reasonable 49 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

Next up we increase screen res tests to accommodate the growing in popularity 1440p screen size. So we booted up FIFA 20 to see how the GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA FTW+ ACX 3.0 3GB dealt with it. It scored up a strong series of FPS results across these graphics presets - Low: 232 FPS, Medium: 193 FPS, High: 142 FPS and Ultra: 103 FPS. Next we looked at Red Dead Redemption 2 which was playable with a 37 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And finally looked at Cyberpunk 2077 that we predict will get an Ultra 1440p FPS of 25. Getting popular modern games to run at 1440p on the GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA FTW+ ACX 3.0 3GB is more than capable at running this screen resolution. 1440p Ultra across almost all modern games is going to be fairly standard with this GPU. We would consider moving this hardware up to 4K screen resolutions for PC gaming today.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA FTW+ ACX 3.0 3GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA FTW+ ACX 3.0 3GB in your PC? Upgrade time for this GPU is currently placed at 2 years

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA FTW+ ACX 3.0 3GB? If you are thinking of upgrading this graphics card then we would currently suggest the 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB. This PC hardware upgrade performs 28% better and can run 901 of today’s 1000 most demanding PC games. Alternatively a good choice when looking to upgrade the GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA FTW+ ACX 3.0 3GB would be the R-500 Series Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB which meets 962 of the 1000 top game’s recommended system requirements and has 37% better performance.

GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA FTW+ ACX 3.0 3GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA FTW+ ACX 3.0 3GB is an a Overclocked variant of Nvidia's entry level GTX 1000 performance graphics card, based on the Pascal Architecture. It comes with locked memory of 3GB instead of the full 6GB.

Architecture
It equips a GPU Codenamed P106-300-A1 which is a first gen Pascal GPU and has 9 SM activated, offering 1152 Shader Processing Units (the GTX 1060 6GB version offers 1280 SPU), 72 TMUs and 48 ROPs.

GPU
The central unit runs at 1632MHz and goes up to 1860MHz, when Boost mode is activated.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 3GB frame buffer of GDDR5, through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 2002MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 120W, it requires at least a 400W PSU with one available 8-pin connector.

Performance
GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA FTW+ ACX 3.0 3GB is a high performance graphics card. It is able to run 2016's triple A titles on very high graphics at 1080p screen resolution with a frames per second of 60+. Once the resolution is raised to 1440p the graphics settings may need to be adjusted down to medium/high in order to maintain 60fps. Its the 3GB memory reduction that will hamper the high quality game textures this card can deliver, making it less future proof as more GPU memory hungry games are released.
