31 Oct 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

The GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA SC GAMING 6GB is a high performing piece of gaming hardware, still confidently featuring in PC gamer computers. GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA SC GAMING 6GB is capable of DirectX 12 gaming requirements.

Here is a performance review on how capable the GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA SC GAMING 6GB is at running the more popular games of 2019. Specifically looking at this PC hardware’s ability to get suitable frames per second to play on Ultra game settings and what FPS it might get on 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen res. 858 games can be played by this graphics card of the 1000 most demanding games being played by PC gamers today.

With 1080p being the most common gaming resolution at the moment we explored how well the GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA SC GAMING 6GB can run Need For Speed Heat at 1080p and saw it return reasonable frame rates at the following graphics settings - Low: 137 FPS, Medium: 108 FPS, High: 73 FPS and Ultra: 52 FPS. For performance contrast we can see that FIFA 20 returns a strong 145 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

Next up we increase screen res tests to accommodate the growing in popularity 1440p screen size. So we booted up Need For Speed Heat to see how the GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA SC GAMING 6GB dealt with it. It scored up a playable series of FPS results across these graphics presets - Low: 105 FPS, Medium: 82 FPS, High: 56 FPS and Ultra: 40 FPS. Next we looked at FIFA 20 which was strong with a 110 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And finally looked at Cyberpunk 2077 that we predict will get an Ultra 1440p FPS of 29. Looking at a few of these 1440p results for the GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA SC GAMING 6GB we get the impression that it is a very good hardware option at these screen sizes. Ultra is easily achieved across almost all games at 1440p and we would suggest an increase of screen size up to 4K for this graphics card.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA SC GAMING 6GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA SC GAMING 6GB in your PC? No graphics card upgrade required for 2 to 3 years of meeting top end game system requirements

GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA SC GAMING 6GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
EVGA's GeForce GTX 1060 Superclocked GAMING card is another small form factor single fan performance graphics card, based on the Pascal Architecture.
Architecture It equips a GPU Codenamed P106-400-A1 which is a First Gen Pascal GPU and has 10 SM activated, offering 1280 Shader Processing Units, 80 TMUs and 48 ROPs.
GPU The central unit runs at 1607MHz and goes up to 1835MHz, in Turbo Mode.
Memory The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of Fast GDDR5, through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 2002MHz.
Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 120W, it requires at least a 400W PSU with one available 6-pin connector.
Performance Benchmarks indicate that the GeForce GTX 1060 offers performance just a bit lower than the GeForce GTX 980. As such, GeForce GTX 1060 is far faster than its predecessor the GeForce GTX 960 and even AMD's new Radeon RX 480 is comparative to this card.
System Suggestions GeForce GTX 1060 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440. We recommend a High-End Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal gaming Performance.

How do you know i5-6400 is its recommended processor? Does it mean this gpu will bottleneck my i7-3770 in some way?
As far as I remember, founders edition has i5-6600k as recommended processor. How is this possible? EVGA less than founder?
