How well can the GeForce GTX 1060 run games
28 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

The GeForce GTX 1060 is a high performing piece of gaming hardware, still confidently featuring in PC gamer computers. GeForce GTX 1060 is capable of DirectX 12 gaming requirements.

How well will the GeForce GTX 1060 run 2019 games? We will take a look at the biggest releases and frames per second analysis on Ultra graphics settings. We look at 1000 of the most demanding games available today and this GPU is better than the recommended graphics requirement of more than 773 games in the list.

Now onto the frame rates achieved at 1080p. We are seeing Borderlands 3 getting 50 FPS with the GeForce GTX 1060, Microsoft Flight Simulator predicted to get 35 FPS and Star Wars: Jedi - Fallen Order getting 35 frames per second. All run on Ultra at 1920x1080 screen res.

One of the growing popular screen resolutions for PC gaming is the wider 1440p. So we wanted to see how well the GeForce GTX 1060 performed at 1440p by taking a look at some of the current popular games. First we looked at Borderlands 3 and saw it deliver playable frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 101 FPS, Medium: 79 FPS, High: 53 FPS and Ultra: 38 FPS. We then checked the performance on Microsoft Flight Simulator to predict if that will run well. It is predicted to be playable with a 27 FPS at Ultra 1440p. Getting popular modern games to run at 1440p on the GeForce GTX 1060 is not a bad choice for a larger screen size like this. Some games will struggle though, but with some careful graphic option adjustments in-game you can normally find a suitable visual experience with this GPU at 1440p.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1060 in your PC? 2-3 years of top end gaming before an upgrade

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1060? If you want an upgrade suggestion for the GeForce GTX 1060 then a good choice would be 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB as this is better than 898 of the top 1000 most demanding game requirements with 27% better performance as well. Alternatively a good choice when looking to upgrade the GeForce GTX 1060 would be the R-500 Series Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB which meets 960 of the 1000 top game’s recommended system requirements and has 34% better performance.

I am getting this for 140$ in exchange of my 1050 2gb asus dual.. is it a good deal? 1050 lags in demanding games in 1080p.. will this card be enough for 1080p 60?

Yes! This card is very strong for the price, I genuinely think there is no price to performance competition for the 1060. Reference model 1060 is better than the reference 980, and this should be able to handle 95% of modern games on 1080p!

Had enough money for 1080 but anything above 1050 is already enough for me, so I just happend to stop at the 1060 webpage and bought one of them :D

Definitely a good choice. Can play over half of my game inventory @144.

One weird thing is that the fan speed does not exceed 50% while chip is under 100% load and is overclocked AND still has good temperature.

For 900p a GTX 1060 will be more than enough. I can play most games at 1440p with med-high settings so with your resolution 1070 would be an overkill.

Thanks for the reply. I was actually thinking about going for one of the new AMD cards, but since I've only used Nvidia I don't really know what to expect of AMD. But by the time I actually upgrade, I think there's gonna be plenty of reviews and options to consider.
