How well can the Radeon RX 490X 8GB run games
12 Jan 2020 - Graphics card reviewed

A true powerhouse, the Radeon RX 490X 8GB will run even the most demanding game system requirements released today. This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 12.

Here we take a closer look at the various performances across 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions for the Radeon RX 490X 8GB. In particular this is looking at the Ultra graphics settings to see what sort of FPS this graphics card can get across some of the more popular games played in 2020. We look at 1000 of the most demanding games available today and this GPU is better than the recommended graphics requirement of more than 991 games in the list.

A Radeon RX 490X 8GB card at 1080p is seeing a good frame rate when running Star Wars: Jedi - Fallen Order on Ultra - 60 FPS. Lets look at the performance its getting on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which is 84 FPS. To add a bit more variety lets see how the popular Grand Theft Auto VI is predicted to perform on this hardware, which gets a reasonable 55 FPS.

We move on to 1440p, and tested Star Wars: Jedi - Fallen Order which delivered reasonable FPS results. Here are the graphic presets - Low: 120 FPS, Medium: 94 FPS, High: 64 FPS and Ultra: 45 FPS. Next we have Call of Duty: Modern Warfare running on Radeon RX 490X 8GB which gets L: 169FPS, M: 133FPS, H: 90FPS, U: 64FPS. And for performance contrast the popular Grand Theft Auto VI is predicted to get L: 111FPS, M: 87FPS, H: 59FPS, U: 42FPS at 1440p. After a look at the popular games running at 1440p with the Radeon RX 490X 8GB, this is certainly a good graphics cards for this increased screen resolutions. It can confidentantly get High or Ultra graphics settings across almost all current games at 1440p.

How many years will the Radeon RX 490X 8GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon RX 490X 8GB in your PC? 2-3 years of top end gaming before an upgrade

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon RX 490X 8GB? If you want an upgrade suggestion for the Radeon RX 490X 8GB then a good choice would be 20 Series GeForce RTX 2080 Ti as this is better than 997 of the top 1000 most demanding game requirements with 25% better performance as well.

Not sure how high can AMD shoot but since RX 480 is nearly same as GTX 1060, I guess RX 490X will be between GTX 1070 and 1080? Can't say anything yet tbh, just my predictions :)

AMD had to recreate their RX 400 series GPUs from the ground up (not entirely i believe). They are focused on power consumption. I hope they deliver what they promise with the performance increase.

power consumption may be equal in the highest end if not slightly lower than what it is replacing, but with so much more performance

AMD has a huge focus on energy efficiency. This is good, they know what they're doing. Along with performance improvements, i believe that AMD will make a great comeback along with the ZEN CPUs and APUs.

I am waiting for APU.
If they can get a apu that performs similar to GTX 950-960 for price close to 7850k or a bit higher, I would likely get one :P

Seems like Zen based APU close to 950 is possible.

This is very interesting. I'm very impressed with AMD's brand new APUs. They are really pushing the APUs to the limit which is GREAT. I'm glad it's possible to get performance close to a GTX 950
