How well can the Radeon RX 480X 4GB run games
31 Oct 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

One of the most powerful pieces of hardware available today, the Radeon RX 480X 4GB runs today’s game system requirements comfortably. This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 12.

What FPS performance can the Radeon RX 480X 4GB get on latest AAA 2019 games? In particular our game review looks at the FPS achieved running on Ultra graphics settings on the 1080p screen resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. We look at 1000 of the most demanding games available today and this GPU is better than the recommended graphics requirement of more than 886 games in the list.

Running at 1080p this card gets a good frame rate from The Outer Worlds with 73 FPS on Ultra. Then we take a look at Need For Speed Heat which returns a good 61 FPS. Another title that we looked at is the popular Star Wars: Jedi - Fallen Order which we predict will get a playable 42 FPS.

Moving screen sizes up to 1440p we ran The Outer Worlds on the Radeon RX 480X 4GB to see that it got a reasonable set of frame rates. Here are the low to ultra results at 1440p - L: 147FPS, M: 116FPS, H: 78FPS, U: 56FPS. Another popular game to test at 1440p with this card was Need For Speed Heat which seemed reasonable in performance netting an Ultra FPS of 46 FPS. Finally we then took a look at Star Wars: Jedi - Fallen Order where its predicted Ultra 1440p Frame rates were playable at 32 FPS. Looking at a few of these 1440p results for the Radeon RX 480X 4GB we get the impression that it is certainly a good graphics cards for this increased screen resolutions. It can confidentantly get High or Ultra graphics settings across almost all current games at 1440p.

How many years will the Radeon RX 480X 4GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon RX 480X 4GB in your PC? 2-3 years of top end gaming before an upgrade

If you want an upgrade suggestion for the Radeon RX 480X 4GB then a good choice would be 20 Series GeForce RTX 2060 6GB GDDR5 as this is better than 964 of the top 1000 most demanding game requirements with 20% better performance as well. Going to wait until MSI benchmarks the 10XX cards, and AMD benchmarks the 480X. Don't see a need for an upgrade yet, unless MSI releases a good 1070/1080.

A lot of this is wrong. For instance, it will not have HBM-2, it will have GDDR5X.And it is supposed to have 8GB VRAM.
