14 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

The GeForce GTX 980 Palit Trio 4GB Edition is a high performing piece of gaming hardware, still confidently featuring in PC gamer computers. This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 12.

Here we take a closer look at the various performances across 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions for the GeForce GTX 980 Palit Trio 4GB Edition. In particular this is looking at the Ultra graphics settings to see what sort of FPS this graphics card can get across some of the more popular games played in 2019. We look at 1000 of the most demanding games available today and this GPU is better than the recommended graphics requirement of more than 773 games in the list.

Now onto the frame rates achieved at 1080p. We are seeing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare getting 46 FPS with the GeForce GTX 980 Palit Trio 4GB Edition, FIFA 20 getting 138 FPS and Red Dead Redemption 2 getting 50 frames per second. All run on Ultra at 1920x1080 screen res.

With PC gamers looking for larger screen sizes like 1440p we tested the GeForce GTX 980 Palit Trio 4GB Edition by playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which yielded a playable performance. Its FPS results for the graphics settings are as follows - L: 93FPS, M: 73FPS, H: 49FPS, U: 35FPS. Another popular game we tested with this card was FIFA 20 and that was strong. This graphics card delivered 105 FPS at Ultra 1440p. Another popular title was Red Dead Redemption 2 which gets playable results with a 38FPS on Ultra 1440p. In summary we feel the GeForce GTX 980 Palit Trio 4GB Edition running at 1440p is more than capable at running this screen resolution. 1440p Ultra across almost all modern games is going to be fairly standard with this GPU. We would consider moving this hardware up to 4K screen resolutions for PC gaming today.
