How well can the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 4GB Edition run games
28 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

A mid level piece of gaming hardware, this GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 4GB Edition graphics card can still meet and run indie system requirements and some of the less demanding AAA games. Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 12 requirement.

We take a look at game performance achieved on this graphics card when running 2019 popular games. This short GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 4GB Edition game hardware review looks at the graphics card frame rate performance on Ultra graphics settings at 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions. In terms of performance against the most demanding games today this graphics card can play 238 of the 1000 most demanding PC games beating their recommended requirements.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 4GB Edition performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title FIFA 20 and saw it deliver strong frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 189 FPS, Medium: 158 FPS, High: 116 FPS and Ultra: 84 FPS. We proceeded to look at Microsoft Flight Simulator to see how that compared and predict that it will return a weak 0 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

We move on to 1440p, and tested FIFA 20 which delivered good FPS results. Here are the graphic presets - Low: 144 FPS, Medium: 120 FPS, High: 88 FPS and Ultra: 64 FPS. Next we have Microsoft Flight Simulator running on GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 4GB Edition which is predicted to get L: 0FPS, M: 0FPS, H: 0FPS, U: 0FPS. And for performance contrast the popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare gets L: 22FPS, M: 17FPS, H: 12FPS, U: 8FPS at 1440p. After a look at the popular games running at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 4GB Edition, this is not the best resolution for this GPU, but if you adjust some graphics settings, perhaps lowering to medium or low at 1440p then this graphics card might be ok.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 4GB Edition graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 4GB Edition in your PC? This GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 4GB Edition card has 12 to 18 months of latest AAA game play left in it before upgrading should be considered

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 4GB Edition? If you want an upgrade suggestion for the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 4GB Edition then a good choice would be 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB as this is better than 897 of the top 1000 most demanding game requirements with 111% better performance as well. Alternatively a good choice when looking to upgrade the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 4GB Edition would be the RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB which meets 668 of the 1000 top game’s recommended system requirements and has 55% better performance.

GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 4GB Edition Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 4GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's Performance GeForce GTX 960 2GB, created by Gigabyte.

Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit now runs at 1190MHz, instead of 1127MHz and goes up to 1253MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Overclock: Memory Clock
None.

Frame Buffer
The Frame Buffer was doubled to 4GB: a gimmick which doesn't yield any performance boost and can be considered marketing to lure consumers into paying more for the same product.

Cooling Solution
WINDFORCE 2X Cooling System: the airflow is spilt through the triangle design at the fan edge, and is guided smoothly through the fan by special 3D stripe curve design. At the same time, it effectively enhanced the cooling capacity while reducing air turbulence.

Performance
Benchmarks indicate a 3% performance over the reference GeForce GTX 960 2GB.
