How well can the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition run games
28 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

One of the more powerful mid range graphics cards, the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition might struggle sometimes with the more system demanding game requirements. All games with system requirements of DirectX 12 or lower are met by this card.

Here we take a closer look at the various performances across 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions for the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition. In particular this is looking at the Ultra graphics settings to see what sort of FPS this graphics card can get across some of the more popular games played in 2019. The GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition can run the recommended graphics system requirements for 267 games today, of the top 1000 most demanding.

The GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition graphics card is returning a weak performance on Star Wars: Jedi - Fallen Order at 1080p of 0 frames per second at Ultra graphics settings. Another popular title that is good to benchmark graphics cards against is Halo: Reach which we saw got strong frame rates of 92 FPS. A third game we can look at on Ultra at 1080p is the popular The Outer Worlds, which was getting 21 FPS under tests.

Increasing resolution to 1440p is something a number of PC gamers are doing today. We tested the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition at 1440p with Star Wars: Jedi - Fallen Order, which got a weak set of FPS results. These were, Low: 0 FPS, Medium: 0 FPS, High: 0 FPS and Ultra: 0 FPS. We then checked out Halo: Reach which had a set of graphics results as followed, L: 184FPS, M: 145FPS, H: 98FPS, U: 70FPS. And another popular game was The Outer Worlds that returned L: 41FPS, M: 33FPS, H: 22FPS, U: 16FPS at 1440p. Gaming at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition is a perfectly suitable selection of hardware for theis larger screen size. If a game at 1440p struggles a bit or experiences a frame drop then you can tweak settings in game to help get it stable. This might mean lowering it to medium or low in some specific options.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition in your PC? 12-18 months of top end gaming is still left in this graphics card

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 4GB Edition? Overclock: Memory Clock
The Operating Memory Clock remains the same while the Frame Buffer was doubled to 4GB: a gimmick which doesn't yield any performance boost and can be considered market to lure consumers into paying more for the same product.

The airflow is spilt through the triangle design at the fan edge, and is guided smoothly through the fan by special 3D stripe curve design. At the same time, it effectively enhanced the cooling capacity while reducing air turbulence.

If you're happy to reduce settings then you should be okay for lower settings. You'll Probably find that med-high would be okay at that resolution.

Contrary to what myself and Stefanosgr17 said below, I just received my card yesterday which was the 1.1 revision with 2 x 6 pin power connectors. The original 1.0 revision, however, does have a 6 pin and an 8 pin.

Quite interested in moving to this card, what performance to others see from this? I like quality graphics so I don't mind compromising at 30 FPS if I can get the latest games looking great.

Seconded, though this may be my naivety but I'm surprised a 960 has a 6 and 8 pin when 970's seem to have two 6 pins.

As I said in my post at the top, the 1.0 original release has 1 x 8 pin and 1 x 6 pin. The 1.1 revision has 2 x 6 pin. This was quite confusing when buying since the 1.0 specs were quoted yet I received the 1.1 card which is better but it meant I'd bought the wrong power cables.
